BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Anybody else nervous that this intake they shortlisted over 200 people compared to past years of roughly 150 students? Also for only 64 spots :nailbiting:

Definitely @sswild. It appears that there are a lot of qualified applicants for this intake. Used to be a 50/50 chance of getting in from the short-list but now the stakes are higher for sure!

Hey guys! I've been silently following this feed for a while now! Good luck to everyone who's applied. Hopefully we hear this week because I'm not sure I can handle this waiting anymore!

Has the 64 spots been confirmed?? I read it earlier on in the thread but I wasn't too sure because previous January intakes had like 96 spots!

That was me mentioning it earlier, I emailed an advisor shortly after being shortlisted and was told just 64 spots

Ohh I see, okay thank you!! :) that sucks though, like what @catsanddogs said, seems like there are a lot of qualified applicants for such a limited number of seats! I guess what happens happens. I hope we all get in!

do you mind sharing what you applied with???

Absolutely. I forget my GPA but I have a Bachelors of Science with Honors in Biology. I also have many volunteer hours from working on my local emergency department as well as an overseas volunteer medical trip.

That sounds amazing!! Definitely some great experience. just out of curiosity, how was volunteering in the ER? Was it easy to get that position? Is it as fast-paced and stressful as it seems?

I really enjoy it. It was easy for me as I had done the highschool volunteer program as well so I just had to tell them what I wanted to do. It can be fast paced and stressful definitely but most of the time it's not that bad and I get to interact with some great patients and staff

I am constantly checking my email right now lol

Hahahah same!! I could barely sleep last night as well
