BCIT January 2014 Applicants

Published

Hi guys,

I thought that now would be an appropriate time to start a new topic for the prospective BCIT nursing students for Jan 2014 (similar threads for previous intakes are also a great source of information).

Hopefully we can share tips, answer questions to the best of our ability, and communicate with each other about when status changes are released and whatnot. Now we can all play the waiting game together, haha! ;)

I applied to UFV's Jan 2014 intake and I have my interview this Friday. Hopefully my interviewer will be nice, which will really ease my nerves lol.

Is BCIT your first choice? And is anyone planning to call BCIT on the 25th about their status?

I think everyone posting on this forum is short-listed right now. Just waiting around to hear something!! Is anyone in this forum applying to other schools? I'm also applying to the U of C January 2014 entry as well.

Me too:) Transfer route though. What's your GPA?

I'm doing transfer route as well. I'm transferring from UVic! They have a 9 point grade scale so my GPA at UVic was a 6.8 (Just below an A- average) and I have a bunch of volunteer work with the hospital and around Victoria (Special Olympics, Relay For Life, and others). I also took an online Statistics course over the summer from TRU and got an A in that, so it may have altered my GPA ever so slightly. :)

...absolutely. Only 3 days away...

What number did they say to call? Is it the admissions office?

D. B., Administrative Coordinator

That was at the bottom of the email. You should send them one and see what they say.

I was also shortlisted for Jan 2014. On my application status page, it says that I am missing 3 credits for the General Elective requirement. Yet I still got shortlisted and even submitted the questionnaire.

How could they short-list me when it says I'm missing 3 credits?

Granted, the transcript I handed in did show I was currently taking another psychology course in progress, and also that I was registered for a health ethics class in the fall. Is it possible they shortlisted me on the assumption that I will have the 3 credits completed by January?

The reason I'm posting this here is in case someone is in a similar situation?

hmm that's strange. I was under the impression that all the pre-req's had to be completed by August 31 (documentation deadline) and they don't bother looking at applications that aren't complete. Did they send out an email to you telling you that your application was "nursing department review ready"? I would definitely give them a call to make sure.

Mine hasn't changed either. BUT I did receive an email saying that we can call in on the 25th of October to potentially get an affirmative answer instead of waiting until Nov 1st for an email....I heard there will be no deferring this year unless a medical issue came up.

Times spent checking myBCIT - 3/4 a day. The anticipation is killing me...

So this previous message I had sent out needs to be debunked and fast. I have spoken with ** of the BCiT nursing committee and she claims that the email about calling in for advanced notice on admissions was for a special case only and that (and I agree) large volumes of phone calls on Friday may hinder the committees ability to make the class decisions for Monday's expected date. There are about 135 of us so I request that anyone who was following the forum up to this point and was planning on calling - to defer that idea and we can all wait it out over the weekend together.

That's understandable. Honestly, I was skeptical about the idea of calling in this week because there are 135 shortlisted applicants, and I can only imagine the implications that could arise if there are last minute status changes, if they gave people false hope, etc.

Oh well, it looks like we still have about a week to go. Ahhhhh :banghead:
