Baylor Scott & White February 2020 Nurse Residency

Nurses Job Hunt

Updated:   Published

Hey y'all! Wanted to go ahead and start a thread for those of us who are applying to Baylor S&W's Nurse Residency Program in Texas! Thought this would be a great place for us to keep each other updated throughout the application process ?

I applied when the apps opened on September 1st, and received an email requesting a digital interview on September 3rd! Haven't completed it yet. Let me know where y'all are at in the application process!

Just curious, how did y'alls OR interviews go? If you don't mind, I have a few questions.

What types of questions did they ask?

How many people were on the interview panel?

How long did it (the interview) last?

When did you provide references?

When did you receive notification of a job offer or otherwise?

Do you have nursing experience?

I understand if you don't feel comfortable answering any or all of the questions. Any information you are willing to provide will be helpful when I apply again. ?

@Summer042

I graduated in August so I had no nursing experience. I was very nervous for the interview, so I tried to prepare as much as possible. I went through all the behavioral questions I could find and wrote my answers to them. They didn’t ask any questions I wasn’t prepared for. There may have been one that I didn’t have an answer for so I just said what I would do in the situation. Everyone was so nice! I think I had 5 people in there but was told I would have 8. It lasted about 30 minutes. They just want to get to know you and see if you’re a good fit! Just be confident! I received an offer on a Monday and was interviewed on the previous Thursday. They do references during the application process so I did not bring them with me. I start in January and I’m super excited to be in the OR! Are you applying for May?

My interview went really well. There were about 8 people in the interview panel. Everyone was so nice and made me feel extremely comfortable. They asked basic interview questions (tell me about yourself, why do you want to be an OR nurse, etc) as well as situational/behavioral questions (tell me a time when, etc). The interview lasted about 30 minutes. I heard back a week later with no offer. References were requested before I interviewed. I have experience as an LVN but I am a brand new RN. Hope this helps! Good luck!

@kmusgrove Thank you so much for the response! It seems as though you and @CamiRN2018 had similar experiences . Both of you mentioned that the interviewers were welcoming. I plan on practicing possible interview questions as well, but also know there is no way to be able to practice every question that may be asked. I tend to ramble or get nervous and go completely blank when asked questions I am not prepared for. Yes, I will be applying the next time applications open. I applied in September, but did not receive an in person interview.

BTW, congratulations on your OR position! I am sure you will do great!!!

@CamiRN2018 Thank you so much for the response! I started off as an LVN too! LVN-ADN-BSN. I took the long route, lol. I have worked at a pediatric clinic > 5 years. However, that is all the nursing experience I have. Too bad on not receiving an offer, their loss! I hope you find what your looking for if you haven't already! Good luck and thanks again!!!

I'm graduating this May from Connecticut. I applied for the residency program. I really hope they call me. I heard you don't get a job there if you don't have any referrals. is that correct? need help then. OMG

Has anyone that applied for the Waxahachie location had an interview yet?

Specializes in BSN grad to be.

Hi, I know this post was awhile ago but I landed an OR job for BSW. Did you have to pay for periop 101? And what was the timeline/outline of the residency program.

Congratulations! No you don’t! We were in the classroom for a month and did peri op 101 together. Then you transition to the OR. I started right before covid hit so our residency wasn’t typical because elective cases got cancelled for a while. You will be with different preceptors in different areas for the first 5-6 months and then you will be put in your specialty and get additional training. I’m not there anymore so I’m not sure if it’s how they still do it! Also this was at BUMC so I’m sure different ORs do it differently. I hope you like it!

Thank you so much for this insight. It is super helpful! I feel like they didn't tell us anything in the interview/ I forgot to ask LOL. Is there a reason you didn't like the OR/ left? I'll be over at BAS
