Hello eveyone is there anyone that attends Barry Universities Basic option nursing school in the fall. Can you please tell me how its like, the teachers, the experiences.

No problem, i be sure to let you know how everything goes.

Just wanted to say Hi to you guys since I too am going to be going to Barry. I was accepted into the acc. starting Jan 2009, and while very nervous I am excited to start. Starting in the Fall I will be taking the Bio-Medical ethics, Religion and the upper division Humanities class that they require now.

Good luck to you guys. :D

Same here. I actually was accepted into both fall and spring but for some reason I wasn't placed in the fall. the nursing adviser said that strange things have been happening this year, so I will be starting in the spring. I prefer it this way anyways.

Now to clarify. Barry requires that you take upper division electives during or before you enter the nursing program.

One of these classes has to be Biomedical Ethics (PHI-353) and Any upper Division Theology course that is at a 300 or 400 level. On top of that there is still a need for one more upper division elective. Is everyone on the same page as me or am I interpreting this incorrectly?

You are correct. For instance.. I'm taking Biomedical Ethics, a Theology class, and a level 3000 Humanities (Modern Currents in Humanities ) which are required during or before the program. I decided to take these 3 during Fall semester so that come January I can focus on just nursing classes instead of having to deal with extra work.

Hi Asira,

Quick question...did the adviser specify it had to be an upper level humanities..or would any other upper division class cover those credits?

Thanks,

Cary

I was told it had to be a 3000/4000 class with a prefix of either ART or HUM.

Ah ok, thank you so much. Good luck in the Nursing program! :)

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a student at miami dade college and i will soon apply to accelerated program for fall 2010. I was wondering what were some of your gpas for the prereqs when you were accepted. Also, when is the deadline for the fall 2010 registration? What does the acceptance exam test? And what is the minimum score? Im kinda nervous in applying because i've put everything into this. and if i do not get accepted my world would crash. Reading this thread was very inciteful. Is there any additional information i should be aware of when applying?

For the required humanities & arts, is it strict to humanities or do behavior sciences count such as psychology of personal effectiveness & human sexuality?

I have taken most of my pre reqs except for:

microbiology

chemistry (is it chm1033 that i need to take?)

statistics

Any information will help!

thanks,

cary

Hi Cary! My name is Cary too, haha. I believe the accelerated program only runs in spring..in this case it would be Spring 2011. You can apply to the basic option for Fall 2010 too. Barry evaluates the pool of people that apply throughout different months in the year...I tried looking for the link to that, but it seems they moved it. For instance, I applied to Barry in June as seeking the BSN Basic Option, I got accepted to the school in general, then I got put into the nursing pool for July. Then mid July I got a response that I was accepted to the program as long as a completed a few pre-reqs, took the HESI, etc. Right now, I think your best bet would be to go to see a counselor, and also speak to to a transcript evaluator. They will tell you exactly what transfers, what needs to be completed etc. The minimum score for the HESI is a 75% on each section (you have to test on ALL the sections).

As for pre-reqs and GPA..I have a 3.3 and I had most of my pre-reqs done; I had taken physiology at FIU but it was not accepted at Barry, so I have to retake it. All my other sciences were completed. I believe that if you have too many classes left, especially the core science classes, they may not accept you immediately b/c you are still liable for those classes. But no worries..if you don't get accepted the first time you apply, you will get put into the next 'pool' and might still have a chance of getting in for the semester you are applying for (as long as the seats aren't full).

Go make that appt w/ a counseler soon! They are very caring and helpful there unlike FIU and Dade.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

:)

:wink2: how funny that we have the same name. thanks so much for the information. i will be coming on here more often cause this is really helpful. i'm going to call monday morning to see if i can make an appointment. How often do the pools at barry happen?

Yeah, this forum is AWESOME!! And no problem..You meet so many people with your sames goals and interests, it's really great.

Ok, so I found that link that I mentioned before..it says the pool dates are as follows:

Admission File Completion Dates Applicant Notification Dates February 1 February 28 May 1 May 31 July 2 July 31 September 4 October 1 November 1 November 30

Hi everyone :)

I also applied to Barry's Nursing program and still have not recieved anything back. I called a few days ago and was told I was moved to September's pool to start in Spring. The thing is I have not been told anything about any classes I must take that Barry does not accept, I am just finding out about this here as I read your threads. I took phisio at FIU, and I see that Barry does not accept this class. Also, speech, and religion??? Can these classes be taken while in the nursing program? I do not want to take them before hand without knowing if i have actually been admitted.

This whole applying process is a very difficult and stressful time, thanks for the help. :)

Hi! Another question ..

I see there is also a computer class required...

Can this class be taken at FIU? I see FIU offers a "intro to micro computing"

and what is the religion class about? Can ethics fall under this category?

I completed all my pre-reqs at FIU, can i be missing anything??
