New Grad Rn -- Case manager position!
Hello all!!! So I just came back from an interview today, and I was offered a RN case manager position at a home health agency. I will be doing a lot of paperwork, and coordinating the care between the nurses, doctors, therapists and patients. It's a lot to deal with but they are willing to provide the proper training and they are well aware that I'm a recent graduate with close to NO experience in the home health agency field. Also, they said after a few months they will let me have 1-2 patients to myself so that I can become familiar with that aspect and not lose my "nursing" skills because case management is ultimately like an office job. Now, here's my concern... my heart belongs in the hospital setting. I LOVE LOVE patient care, and i'm SO afraid that if I take this job I will be limiting myself to always working in a home health care setting and will never get the chance to do hospital work. The problem is where I live, there are absolutely NO job opportunities right now for new grads. No one is hiring!!! So to pass up this opportunity is crazy in itself. If I do take the job, I will have to commit to one year. In conclusion, it's a double edge sword. Damned if I do, Damned if I don't. Can someone offer some peice of advice, do you think I will still be able to find a hospital job a year from now with "case management" experience. Please share your stories :) I'm all ears.

well first of all, congrats!!!!!!! ahhh i can't imagine how good it must feel to be done with this test. i'm sure you did great but waiting for the quick results must be torture. i think i'm going to hide in my bed under my pillows for those 48hrs. lol so i've been following your posts along because, just like you, i have major anxiety issues!!!! i test on july 5th.... exactly 14 days away, and i'm totally freaking out. but reading your posts about kaplan has really eased some anxiety. i'm studying using kaplan as well. i'm finally done reading the rn course book (did you use this too?), or did you only do questions all throughout? for the next 14 days i'm just going to focus on remediating questions and answering the question trainers. i recently did question trainer 4 and even though a lot of the questions were from left field, i scored a 72%!! did you use the "********* study guide" as well? ******* well once again congrats to you, and thank you so much for posting your progress. it definitely helps everybody else!!! :) good luck with the quick results!! ***** administrator note allnurses.com has not compiled and does not endorse any "study guide" found in any threads, posts, emails, or pms. we cannot attest to the accuracy of information found in any such "study guide". an recommends obtaining a study guide from a nursing program's book list or from recognized and reputable nursing publisher as information is usually peer reviewed.

Hi! Another question .. I see there is also a computer class required... Can this class be taken at FIU? I see FIU offers a "intro to micro computing" and what is the religion class about? Can ethics fall under this category? I completed all my pre-reqs at FIU, can i be missing anything??

Hi everyone :) I also applied to Barry's Nursing program and still have not recieved anything back. I called a few days ago and was told I was moved to September's pool to start in Spring. The thing is I have not been told anything about any classes I must take that Barry does not accept, I am just finding out about this here as I read your threads. I took phisio at FIU, and I see that Barry does not accept this class. Also, speech, and religion??? Can these classes be taken while in the nursing program? I do not want to take them before hand without knowing if i have actually been admitted. This whole applying process is a very difficult and stressful time, thanks for the help. :)
