I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO BAPTIST AND WILL BE STARTING THIS FALL. I AM SO EXCITED. I WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT TO EXPECT AT ORIENTATION AND ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES AT THE SCHOOL.

Specializes in Student.

I am not taking it, unless I can find someone to pay for it. Then I will. But my main priority is finding someone to pay for nursing school.

I'm taking one class this fall, because I ran out of classes to take and needed one more class to meet Financial Aid requirements.

thank you. like you, unless i can find someone to pay for it i'll just let it fall by the wayside. it's just too expensive ($300+ an hour for a 15-hour minor). besides, as nurses we'll never really be without jobs. yes, this would look good on a resume but honestly - would it help you get a job? doubtful. as long as you have "RN" after your name, you're good to go.

...that is unless all the sick people either die or get well...:typing

I think that is a very valid point

When I run out of classes I'll take stuff like Medical Technology or Spanish..

i took spanish in college. i took advanced beginning spanish (since i have a native level of fluency in french). i didn't follow through with the rest of it. i thought about taking it from baptist but here's the thing - they only offer spanish 1 and 2. i was hoping they offered more than that. so i may just pass on it.

plus, i would have enrolled in 1 this semester but it's only offered monday nights from 6-9. my only other class on mondays is at 11. that's a really long wait.

Yeah I remember trying to not ever schedule classes where there was a long wait the first time I was in school. If it was schedule far apart I woudl dread going to class at the end of the day like that. And with gass prices, it cost too much to drive to campus in the morning. Then drive back later, that is crazy.

Well, now that I have redid schedule today... I start at 11:30 and end at 2:45on Tuesday and Thursday. this does not include the BCE at 9:45 on Thursdays. Or the first day of class for my two online courses

dts4ever, I am 38 and looking at applying to Baptist's program-- I have a degree in social work from Ole Miss, and truth be told, I don't even know what route to take. I was about to apply to Union's program, but I do have a family and am getting cold feet about the intensity of the program- I would love to discuss this with you, but evidently you h ave to have posted 15 times on here to PM! And I'm just a lurker. I feel old and out of it! Anyway, any info on their program would be appreciated!

stellarose, I'm 37 & felt "old" too when I went back to school in the Spring! Now I love it, & I know I made the right decision. I don't know anything about Union's program except that it is very intense. I knew it wasn't the right choice for me because my background is not in science, & I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up & balance my family life (that's just for me, not everyone). With your social work degree & experience, Union may be the right choice for you.

Momlovinschool, thanks for the encouragement! I am meeting with the Baptist counselor next week-- getting major cold feet about Union the more I deal with them and really consider it..... I think my SW background will help me with people aspects--- but science- I HIGHLY DOUBT! lol-- thanks, Stella :-)

Hi stellarose. This is only my 14th post, so I need one more to pm anyone. BCHS is a good school. They have a Day Program, where most of your classes are M-F during the day. There is also a nights/weekend program. I am enrolled in the day program. It can be intense but it would depend upon how many pre-requsities you have to take. But if it is really your heart's desire you can do it. My husband left me and my kids 3 weeks before I began at Baptist. So talk about adversity and climbing mountains, and sometimes being stuck in valleys but I continue to press on for me and my kids. I really want to be a nurse so I do what I have to do to make it happen one day at a time. And yes I was a little apprehensive about starting over at 37 but now that I am doing it I love it. I am much more focused than when I first went off to college at 18 and my grades are so much better. BCHS has a pretty diverse student population. There are younger people than me and older people so you would not have to worry about fitting in. No matter what you do there will always be negatives and positives but you get to choose what you focus on. Keep posting until you can pm me.
