I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO BAPTIST AND WILL BE STARTING THIS FALL. I AM SO EXCITED. I WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT TO EXPECT AT ORIENTATION AND ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES AT THE SCHOOL.

So can we just go to bookstore and get them off of the books?? B/c if I can find a cheaper route I'm taking it!!

The bookstore is set up so that the employees get your books for you. The textbooks do sometimes change from semester to semester, but the faculty have to have their text book decisions in well before the trimester begins so that the bookstore can order them and have them in stock. Rarely will the book change at the very last minute. If it does there is usually a decent reason. From your school email account you should be able to look up your instructors email address. They will most likely let you know what texts they are using. They put it on their syllabus, so it isn't much of a stretch to email it to you. They probably have their syllabus on their computer and could email you that so you could be the forward thinking student who wants to get ahead on their reading (smile)

hi everybody. i got my a&p book yesterday. it was $216 but it is for both 1 and 2. so there is no book to buy for a&p2. it's a new book (well, 12th edition - they probably changed 2 words, changed the pic on the cover and voila). it also comes with 2 other supplementary materials AND the woman said some profs will require we get this other thing that isn't in yet. in order for us to get it we have to show our receipt that we bought it from the bchs bookstore. whatever. that's the ONLY book i'm buying from them.

otherwise, here are the books needed for my classes. i called them and even though she couldn't give me the ISBN numbers she gave me everything else.

Nutrition - Understanding Nutrition by Whitney (11th edition) - 108.25 used at BCHS

Algebra - College Algebra by Levitan (4th edition) - 30.75 used at BCHS

Psychology - Psychology by Myers (8th edition) - 95.50 at BCHS

i bought these books online and saved about $50. i ended up using amazon.com's textbook section. i'm pretty sure i bought the correct books. if not, i'll send 'em back. i compared what the covers look like with a friend who already bought hers. i only wrote down isbn's for 2 of the above books (0495116696 and 0716764288).

anyway. hope this helps.

SOOO, we start school next week. Anyone excited?? I'm not. Spirits went down after orientation.

I just went and bought my books for class and i'm highly irritated. One of the ladies in the bookstore it seems has taken a disliking to me. She has termed me "belligerent" and "angry".

Heck yea i'm gonna complain about the cost of books! What student doesn't? Unless they have parents that take care of them and then it's no problem.

I was excited when I started the program, but now i'm not. I'm just trying to finish so I can get on with my life.

BTW....Ladybug I haven't heard from you in a while. Shoot me a message once in a while girlie, so I can keep in touch with you. :yeah:

Everyone including the staff is stressed at the beginning of a semester. They are busy getting ready. We are busy getting ready. I'm not sure how I am going to organize my time. I have already started reading books. I am very excited! Just a little nervous that I may be biting off more than I can chew.

KEEP OUR EYES ON THE BALL!! We want to be nurses. We unfortunately have to pay the dues, Just think of the cost of books as an investment in the rest of our futures. If all goes well we should all spend the next 20-40 years reaping the benefits. AND we WILL have some fun on the way..... We will meet some wonderful people and learn how to save lives! Look at it this way, we already have each other on this forum to support one another. Good Luck and hard work everyone!!!!

I only have one semester of general education left after this and then I can start my clinicals. I look forward to that more than anything i've looked forward to in a long time. This has been a learning experience for me, as far as me learning about myself.

I've learned that I need to focus more and put more effort into studying. And I've learned that I need to alleviate stress and drama from my life from this point on.....period.

LadyBug,

I got your PM I PM'd back but haven't heard. Is everything OK? What happened?

I agree with you Transgender. There is no time for drama once school begins tomorrow. I also need to spend more time studying. I am about to sit down and make a schedule out for study, work, etc.

If you are due a refund after purchasing your books, does anyone know when they are mailed?

If you are a new student it takes a month I think. If you are a returning student I think a couple weeks, maybe less. Check with the guys in the office. My memory is rusty right now.....

I hope everyone had a great first day!! My first day is tomorrow...
