I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
Boy, do I ever appreciate this new information being shared, even though it's ultimately very sad news. I also applied for the July cohort and have been looking in my mail box every day last week, and now I'll be lucky to even get some sort of letter if the director's gone! A lady told me at church yesterday that Banner let go 22 nurse practioners because Banner needs to cut the budget big time so they let these NPs go who primarily worked in the neonatal unit. Unbelievable! We really are in hard times!!!
I heard today through the grapevine at Banner that out of the March cohort that just graduated 75% got jobs right away and out of the 20 left after graduation all but 3 got jobs. I also heard that Banner is going ahead with the July cohort, but is in negotiations (I assume with the corporate office) for future cohorts. It could mean fewer start dates, fewer students (maybe one 30 student cohort per start date), or no cohorts for now. They could even make it a Banner employee only program, change the requirements, work with a BSN program or who knows. The climate is changing and I think that Banner is having to change with it.
I know this is just yet another rumor, but the numbers were specific. Has anyone gotten a call back for the July cohort yet? I'm wondering if you haven't heard back just because the director is no longer there. It could be just a bump in the road and be taking awhile to coordinate without her. Stay positive and don't give up your dream.
Good luck to all of you who applied!!
No, those numbers aren't right. 24 of the 81 from March grads still don't have jobs. I know that straight from the source. Also, they are starting the July part-time co-hort but everything else is up in the air. If anyone HAS actually been let out of the contrace, can you please let me know? I am trying to get a clear answer on that. Thanks!
Hahaha! Those numbers are incorrect Marlene! I graduated in one of the BNF cohorts in March and maybe 25% of my cohort had a job immediately and still out of the 30 in my cohort we probably have 5-8 that still don't have positions. I am not sure about the other 2 cohorts that graduated in March but I am sure that it is a similar story!
I just spoke with the temporary director for the BNFP yesterday. She told me that they are still planning on having the July cohort but b/c the previous director left that they are behind schedule when it comes to mailing out letters which she also said would most likely come in the form of email vs snail mail. She also said there were 80 people on the list to be interviewed, and you could expect an email the 2nd week of June-ish. Then she told me b/c they are having a hard time getting a panel together to conduct the interviews you may not get very much notice as to when the interview would be. When she explained it to me she said they take your GPA for your sciences, and math classes to come up with you GPA which is used to rank the applicants, so if you have a GPA of less than 3.0 in those classes don't hold your breath that you are on the list. That is what I understood her to say was the cut off for the applicants on the list to be interviewed. Of the 80 applicants they will take 30... super nervous waiting to see if I will get an interview for the July cohort. Just wanted to pass on the info that I got directly from Banner yesterday. Good luck everyone, the only question that I forgot to ask was whether they were only doing the Gateway cohort or if they were doing the Gateway and Glendale cohorts or whatever other college they used to place in July. Hopefully we will all get some news soon. If I hear anything else I will let you guys know.
Ruco, Thank you, Thank you so very much for such a clear and concise recap or your conversation with Banner. The breakdown of the timeline helps tremendously. I look forward to our next steps and good Luck on an interview if you get one, fingers crossed for all of us. Again, Thank you, you made my day :redbeathe
i am so bummed :crying2:
i just went to banner hospital web-site and what i saw:confused:
thank you for your interest in the banner health nurse fellows program. at this time, we are phasing out this program and will not be considering any new applicants.
the july 2010 cohort will be the final cohort of this program.
i am sooooo sad, i took my last pre-reqs this semester thinking that i will apply for october cohort... and now what???? seat and wait for 2 years when my turn come along???
its just not right:mad:
It just blows...
they were promising "golden mountains" at March informational session and now what? Why they weren't honest with us a month ago? Not like it would change anything, although I would start looking for other options back then rather then now, when everything is booked already...
Its just very upsetting:mad:

Serenity,
Can I ask which location you attended? I ask because I hear that the East Valley is saturated.... Feel free to PM if you'd like. Thanks!
