I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
This would be soon to hear anything, they must have zillions of apps to go through. I've had to review job applications for my job, it can be gruling! I wouldn't expect anything for at least another week. Besides once they decide who they want to interview they have to schedule the room, interviewees then the applicant. Somewhere in all those variables something can fall apart at any time. They don't exactly have an easy job getting though so many applications. Patience, I know is hard we'll get there. That's my 2 cents
Hi All! I decided about a year ago that I wanted to continue my education and go back to school for nursing. I graduated from ASU last May w/ a Marketing degree, but since I started working I have realized the 'office' environment is not for me. Through high school & college I was a nanny, and also worked in a group home where I took care of handicapped adults (much like CNA work). I miss the caretaking so much! My mother has been a labor and delivery nurse for 20+ years and currently works at Banner Desert. Love to hear about her job and also her schedule & benefits. I finally started back to school last week to finish up BIO156 & BIO201 so I can apply to the MCCD nursing program. Just want any words of advise since I am early in the process- suggestions as far as resume building, preparing to apply to the banner fellowship program, etc. Any words of advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

Rant/Question/Observation while sweating the wait for a spot in the July cohort.
It's almost a year since I decided on a second career in nursing and saw Banner's Fellows program as the best choice for quality education with an employer that seemed as committed as I am to excellence.:redbeathe
A lot has changed since and sadly not for the better. First the March cohort was cut in half, then the deadline for applications for July was pushed back, next the long serving head of the program is dumped just weeks before the new deadline. Meanwhile recent graduates are unable to find jobs at Banner.
Nothing for it but to wait and see, but in recent months I've been busy looking hard at alternatives to Banner.
So, anyone heard anything?? It's now over a week past the delayed deadline, which would only have benefited Banner employee applicants as Spring finals aren't til next month. I'd hope they had at least started sifting through those already submitted.
I think the Banner Nurse Fellows program has been stopped at this time. There are currently no jobs for new grad nurses at Banner Hospitals. Banner was not able to place the the graduates from the March 2010 cohort. The lady the headed the Banner Nurse Fellows program is no longer with the company and the graduates that could not be placed in RN positions at Banner hospitals are being let out of their contract.
I would have to agree with you on the Banner program no longer being offered. I talked to someone at MCCCD today and they informed me that the program is in limbo, but that Banner was being very tight lipped about what direction they are going. From what I could gather though they are no longer interested in nurses with an ADN and want you to have a BSN... They are looking at pulling from ASU and GCU...
I am currently in the program.
I have not followed this thread for awhile, but I wanted to let you know what the rumor mill is saying in our class. The last group they are passing through is Banner 20, which started in March (I think). After that all informational meetings were cancelled.
The last class graduated around 30 people, and I heard that only 4 have gotten jobs so far. I also heard today that the director of the program is no longer there. Have yet to verify that but I hope it's not true. She was really nice. :-(
I too feel sad about this program ending. There are lots of jobs in CA and places, and it surprises me that there is such a lack of nursing jobs in AZ-- esp. with Cardon Children's, and the new cancer hospital, that they would not be able to place the students they have invested in.
Reasy 123 and Anon,
Which schools are you at and are/were you Fellows? I am currently in Blk 4 Banner Fellows. How do you know the info about those placed and those being let out of their contracts? I am just trying to gather some firm data. We are being told nothing! Thanks! (PM me if you feel more comfortable, and I will do the same.)
This makes me soo sad I was looking forward to possibly starting in the July cohort. Does anyone know for sure if anything has been set in stone about canceling the program, or putting it on hiatus? Also, does anyone know why they would extend the application acception deadline for July if they weren't sure they were going to keep the program going?
There were about 86 March grads between Gateway, Mesa and Estrella. Of the 30 in my class, about half have jobs. Not sure about the other classes. The previous director is gone. No one from my class has been let out of their contract yet. We just had another round of interviews. Have a friend that applied for the July cohort and has not heard anything yet.
