I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
Hello everyone out there for the Nurse Fellows at GWCC starting Oct. 19th. It is getting close to orientation and it is going to be a lot of work. I have worked with two people that have completed the program and they were always busy. They were able to work 32 hours with Banner as they did it though. I hope to meet all of you all at the orientation.
I know how your feeling:banghead:. I am very organized as well and not getting anything in our packets makes me nervous if EMCC is really on top of things like they should be. Nursing is difficult as it is and to have a school that isn't organzied is scary. They should have the orientation sooner so that we all have more time to get things situated. I guess by their response to you it is not their problem???. I guess if you go off the schedule they have on the website. I think that Gateway has had many more years experience with this than EMCC has. Not so good for us. ----Kelli
I try not to assume anything from emails, but I am extremely frustrated right now! Let's just say I do not have a good feeling about the school thus far...I had heard from some less than satisfied nursing students from there, but was trying to give the school the benefit of the doubt. At this point I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried. :crying2:The issue seems to not be with the program, just this particular school. I just hope it gets better from here! I want to put all of this behind me and get started...the sooner I have all the details in my hands the better!
I have also heard a lot of negative comments about the school, but mostly they were about the nursing program not being well put together. I too am very concerned. However, I am still very excited to start and determined to make the best of whatever is thrown our way. I am sure things will be fine. or at least I hope they will be. Good luck to all of us!
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knows which schools are for which cohorts? I am planning on submitting my application for next July cohort. Also, would it be advisable for me to retake the NET test seeing as I barely passed the reading with a 61 and the math I got an 80? My GPA is not very good...I think it's something like a 2.8. Can anyone give me any other advise? I currently work for a pediatrician at the front desk and have worked there almost 3 years. Please let me know!
Thanks a lot

I would say anything that you can do to get higher scores is a good idea for the banner program. From what I have read on here (you should read through this whole thread) they go off of a point system. Your net is worth so many points and your GPA is worth so many points ect. If you get enought points then you get an interview with banner and they will decide from there. A 2.8 GPA I would say is pretty low for how competitive the banner program is. I have a 3.824 GPA and on my net test I scored 70 or 71 on reading and a 97 on math. I don't know which schools go with what cohorts all I know is mine which is October 2009 at EMCC and there is also one at GWCC for October 2009. Definetly try to get into banner but keep an open mind that it is competitive but at least you could say you tried if you didn't get in and maybe you will :). Good Luck
Rikelli,
Thank you for your reply...I actually have read this whole thread! There was one that said the point breakdown is like GPA 2 points, NET 8 points and then the essays some other points. So, I wasn't sure how much my GPA would help or hurt me. Is there a GPA minimum? I am only taking BIO 202 this semester so that's not going to bring it up too much. I will re-take the NET test and hopefully do a lot better on it! And I will definitely try to get the Banner because I really need this...as do a lot of people!
OCD Mom,
Thank you also for your reply...I will take your advice and retake the NET! I am really hoping MCC is in the July cohort and I'm really hoping I get in!

I started Gateway yesterday in the Banner 19 Cohort. I have LEARNED A TON!!!!!!!!!!!!! and am tired and excited all in one. We are cruising through stuff quickly so you build on everything you did the day before...if the other Maricopa Community College programs are like this it is pretty wonderful because you just keep adding to the knowledge base you already have. If you did not use the Study Guide for the NET I highly recommend it as well as a good friend or family member who can tutor you with more difficult concepts, my sister is a High School Math Teach so I has her refresh my basic math skills. English/Communication was pretty easy for me. Since you have taken it once you should know what to expect (I think not knowing is half the personal battle through it.) Hang in there and do your best in 202 a strong showing in that course as well as any other class that can apply are well worth it. I had Terminology and Nutrition under my belt aswell (A's in both) and they boosted my GPA a little -if you have to wait a while...hint hint hint (If they are still available.) Again good luck, this whole experience is what you make of it and those around you. Feed on the positive and disregardthe negative.
