I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
To anyone who's currently in Block II Banner Program at Gateway,
How are you guys doing in your Block II? I am thinking of applying at Gateway for my Block III in March '08. Do you think that there will be a spot available for me? I wonder if someone wanted to have a break from school and decide to work as an LPN for now, or if somebody dropped out for some reason, just in case. Please advise!
Thank you...
Hah! I was just having some fun. I'm a wise-guy.
In my critical care class right now there are 5 or 6 of us from my cohort - and you can't pry us apart for anything. I love 'em all. You will meet awesome people...it's just interesting how the final friendships vary so differently from the initial bunch.
Congrats on getting in. I can't say enough good things about the program. 24 months ago at this time, I was a business person. Now I'm an ICU nurse. How cool is that?????????????????????? And it was free and fast! Enjoy - learn all you can - and be safe. Do an externship - but stay within your scope of practice. I can't believe I get paid to do what I do at work. How many people can say that?

Hi Stopnick,
Any advice on extern-ships. What do you mean by "staying within your scope of practice"?
I am just about to go into block 2 of the Banner program and I am keen to extern. Hopefully somewhere I can learn a lot of basic nursing skills.
Thanks in advance

From my experience... don't trust what's posted in the calendar. I think they put something in there to claim the space (probably so they can reserve a classroom). Unless they change things for you guys, you'll be in class Monday through Thursday from roughly 8:30am to 3:30pm for the first several weeks. The clinical days before you're actually in facilities you are in the lab practicing skills like foley catheter insertion, teeth brushing, bed making, etc. You'll watch some pretty graphic videos on peri-care, enema administration and more. Once clinicals start, that'll be two days a week from 6:45a-3:30p.
I'm in the BNF GWCC Oct 2007 cohort (currently block one). We have had lecture on Monday and Tuesday and clinicals Wednesday and Thursday but I hear that changes from block to block - sometimes clinicals are Mon/Tues and lecture Wed/Thur. We started class the week after orientation and the day and time did NOT match the calendar.
Good luck!!!
