  1. To anyone who's currently in Block II Banner Program at Gateway, How are you guys doing in your Block II? I am thinking of applying at Gateway for my Block III in March '08. Do you think that there will be a spot available for me? I wonder if someone wanted to have a break from school and decide to work as an LPN for now, or if somebody dropped out for some reason, just in case. Please advise! Thank you...
  2. Is there a Banner Fellows Program at MCC? Block III in March 08?
  3. To Everyone who got in to the Banner Fellows Program, What did you guys answer on the question, "Why do you want to work for Banner?" Please advise, thanks!
  4. Thanks so much for the info pfillbert! I love this site!
  5. Okay, thank you! so you mean there will be no Block III Banner program in Gateway on March 08? just Block I? I would like to get into fast track as much as possible. In regards to CGCC, I remember that on our third exam only 2 out of 36-38 students passed and the class average was at 61% then the instructor made some adjustments and the class average went up to 66% still a fail. Our quizzes were horrible students get from 1/10 to 5/10. We do the quizzes at home, it's online. Students spend 4 hours answering a 10 question quiz and still get a D. The class average on our quizzes were 4/10 or 5/10 and sometimes 6/10. One of my classmates had a 4/10 and she had two RN's helping her. It was tough, you can google all you want but for some reason you still get a low/fail grade.
  6. No, I don't work in NICU. May I ask, how many students failed in your Block III? Is there a Block III opening in March 2008 over there at Gateway? The problem is, if everybody in Block II passed then there will be no spot available in Block III this Spring unless somebody decided not to go back and just work as an LPN, or move to other school, which is unlikely since I heard that Gateway is a good school unlike CGCC Block III, where the exams' and quizzes' class average was a D. How did you hear about CGCC? You know someone there? or you read the thread here about it?
  7. "Why wasn't the dean involved?" I actually talked to the student who survived and was part of the first batch of Nursing who graduated at CGCC and she mentioned to me that they would always talk to the dean about this professor, and they would tell her that this professor does not respect students in addition to not testing them on what this instructor has lectured (she would also ask questions that she said we should have known since Block I and II, but how does she know if we learned those in Block I and II? [actually we didn't]). Anyways, this student also mentioned that they would always go to the dean every after exams but I guess it didn't help, this instructor is still there teaching (I heard that the dean is scared of this psycho instructor haha! ) I also heard from a student at MCC that this instructor got caught changing answers on scantrons from other school (this student was there then moved to MCC) she said this instructor really want to fail students. Also, I talked to the advisor from other school to apply and transfer and he said that he is surprised that this instructor is still teaching (BLock III). In regards to what happened in Block II with so many students who failed, believe me, the President got involved in that issue. Perhaps, this was part of the reasons why those instructors improved their teaching to the next batch which was the Banner Students. As to the Block III Instructor? nothing has changed yet, I guess students are too scared to do something because the instructors in Block II are actually a lot nicer and definitely not psycho's compared to this Block III professor.
  8. To MassagetoRN, Just a thought, I had a classmate who failed our A&P 1 but passed and graduated from the Banner Program. I am not saying instructors give special consideration to the Banner Students, but perhaps they are just being more of a teacher compared to the traditional program where they gave way too advanced exams that are not from their lectures. In addition, the instructor in Block III do not accept other answers even if they are in the book. In fact, three of her questions were exactly the same with the questions that were on the CD in the other college's book, but her answers were totally different. So are you saying that the book is wrong? Furthermore, if only 2 out of 38 students passed the exam and the class average was at 61% then I would say it's not the students' problem, perhaps there something wrong with the teaching process. Moreover, many of us in class have high GPA's and have Bachelor Degrees, in fact some of my classmates wanted to continue their schooling to become Nurse Anesthetists and Nurse Practitioners because they are smart people, however they also fail in class, what's up with that? probably because the answers to their tests are not coming from the intructor's lectures, books or even google, it's whatever the instructor wanted to pick depending on her mood . BTW, many students say she's a psycho. You can't really judge the students who failed unless you're in their program . As I said before, I passed that Block with many students who failed but I wouldn't judge them because I know how it was like... I guess passing that block was kind of like a lottery!
  9. Wow! I better report CGCC to Mercy Gilbert then, I don't think they can do anything though! but it's possible that they can help improve that school, I don't know...we'll see.
  10. Yes, CGCC was actually my first choice as well because that is the closest school to my house, but now I rather drive far just to attend a good nursing school. I heard that Gateway and MCC are good because they are already established schools so try to apply there. Or do some more research about CGCC, you never know they might improve when it's your time. I would say that their Block I was not that bad, although it was still a hardwork because they gave us way too much unnecessary homework but they're doable; and the exams were not that bad. It was on the 2nd and 3rd block where they started to fail many good students. If you want to go to CGCC try their Banner Program, 100% of their Block II class passed, or if you can't wait you can start in CGCC for your Block I and transfer to MCC for your Block II, but just keep in mind that you can only make 1 permanent transfer according to the MCCDNP policy. In addition, I believe you cannot miss a semester or you will take Block I all over again (Please double check on this, I know that if you widraw of fail Block II you cannot miss a semester or you will apply as a new student and repeat all nursing courses in Block I; but I am not sure what's the policy if you are trying to transfer from Block I to Block II and miss a semester).Good Luck to you!
  11. I was just wondering because 100% of that Banner Program in Block II at CGCC passed compared to the Block II Traditional Program at CGCC with 13 or more students that failed (I did a re-count). Again, same instructors, same block, same school and same year (just different semester).
  12. Yes, one of my classmates told me the she got lucky passing the test in CGCC (Block III), she was just guessing, there was no knowledge there she mentioned, (I bet! because the majority of the questions were not taught in class). In addition, many of the students who passed Block III barely made it and some even got exactly 76%, while there were students who failed by 1 point (Block II & III) or even by 0.5 (Block II) no mercy there. I regret that I got in to Chandler Gilbert Community College, I wish I got in to MCC in the beginning .

Wow! that is amazing! I have never heard of almost 100% passing in Block IV, actually I would say that's a 100% because one failed due to clinical performance and not the Nursing Process which is what I am most worried about. I actually passed my Pharmacology In Block III so it's only the NP that I have to repeat. I just e-mailed the nursing advisor at MCC to ask if I would be able to be placed on a waiting list for Spring, I really hope I get in, thank you for all your advice!
  14. Hello all! Is there a lot of Nursing Schools in the Philippines? Are they accredited here in US? tnx!
