Hi all.. I have a question. I got a position on nights, start in a couple weeks... my question is when I train with my preceptor will I be on days or nights?

You'll start working night shift with your preceptor from the beginning unless you're ICU. ICU likes to start you off for day shift for about 15 shifts even if you're hired as nights. Otherwise everything is at nights, and you have SIMS lab or orientation classes during the day.

This was not the case for me. I was hired as nights and my last 2 weeks of orientation will be days. So, I did it the other way around.

Sim is usually 1 skills day and 2 simulation days. Both are 8-4:30.

Whether you start on nights or days varies. A lot of units like new hires to do 2-3 weeks on day shift so they can get to k ow doctors and management. It's also a way to get a bit of a handle during "normal" hours. Then you switch to nights after that. Not all do this though.

I am not a new grad but when I started at banner, all the night shifters in my hiring group worked a week or two on days before finishing onboarding on nights. But I know of some from other hiring groups who went directly to their night shift.

May have to do with available preceptors as well.

Does anyone know when Banner opens their New Grad programs for hospitals in the west area (Thunderbird area)?

They open the new grad posting, west or east, at random times. You need to just keep checking.

Does anyone have any insight on the ED at Banner Desert? I'm super excited to have been offered a position there, but I'm from out of state and don't know much about the hospital in general. Thanks :)

It's a very busy level one trauma center. The ED is HUGE here and always always busy. I imagine it's a great learning experience!!
