Baker Students Waiting For Acceptance Post Here!!

Published

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would start a thread for all of us awaiting letters from Baker for Spring/2009. Maybe we can all support each other while we are waiting and share any information that we "have heard" that may be helpful!

No the letter doesn't have ranking. Last time I was #46, I heard they got to #44. LOL

I hope to heck that I get into MCC at this point. Thank god I got that 96 on the HESI, thank GOD I busted my behind for the last two years worth of classes and got all A's. I think that is why I am so upset about not getting in at Baker. The rejection makes me feel like a failure, but obviously, I'm not. And neither is anyone else who got an above average score and worked their tails off. Kudos to all of you who didn't get in. The scores we earned are not worthless.

You are definitely in at MCC, I got a 95 on the HESI so hopefully we are in TOGETHER! Sorry about Baker, but a 96 on the HESI is amazing and it will all be worth it soon!

I'm almost certain that you will be in at MCC! You are definitely not a failure; all because you didn't get accepted to one school doesn't mean that you're out of the game completely. You've got plenty of other options, too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I hate how competitive nursing school is. Yes, I like competition. What I DON'T like is feeling like an idiot if I get an A- or a B+ in a class, or not getting accepted into nursing school. Maybe it's just me, since I have low self esteem and I'm trying to accomplish something that means the world to me. Regardless of the reason, it SUCKS.

Like what you said, Gem, no matter what happens: we kick ass!

LOL What sucks too is that now I have to take a class in the summer. LOL Darnit.

Sigh.

Oh and the financial aid thing, I will have to appeal my ineligibility for FA, or pay for all my own classes, unless I find a job where they reimburse me.

This isn't the universe telling us we aren't good enough. It is the universe asking us "how much do we want it?"

I'm going to call on Monday and see what my ranking is, this time. That way we can have more information for you girl who apply in the spring. I suppose I could apply in the spring too, but it would be a waste of energy and time.

Okay...If for some ungodly reason you do not get into MCC (and if any one is it will be you because your score is so high), you have to reapply for Baker for the Fall. Like you said the scores are a lot lower before and I guarantee that there is not always going to be that many that are higher. You have nothing to lose by reapplying!!!!! Plus, if not MCC, then we definitely need to be in classes together at Baker in the Fall!!!!

Call first thing to Monday to find out your ranking, because come April 15th there may be a lot of people that get into MCC for the fall and opt to wait to start there because it is a lot cheaper. Please do not give up!

Besides I need you to give me a pep talk in April when I get kicked to the curb by MCC!;)

Exactly, those who have to bust their butts to get it appreciate it that much more in the end.

How about applying for work study at Baker to pay for school? I think as long as you are a student there you can do it and then they take the money to put back into your tuition. You know the people that are TA's in the science building, they are on works study. Also in the main building by the library they have job postings for students, maybe you can work part time.

The classes at MCC are so much cheaper, I think 3 credits is only $250 or something like that. Plus you can take up to 5 months off before you have to start payments back on financial aid so you could work for a couple months in a temp agency while waiting for school again, I think I am going to do that while I wait to see if I get in somewhere.

The other option is switching to HFCC and taking a couple pre-res classes there and get on the waitlist.

There are options, no giving up!! You and I are going to carpool to HFCC if we have to!!

Gem, I can't tell you how badly I feel about this. I have been talking to you for quite some time now and you are very impressive. I can't even imagine what the cutoff is this time. I thought for sure you would be in with that extra point. Please PM me if you need to vent, as you remember I know exactly how you feel.

I'm in the same boat with Financial aid for MCC. But I figure if I want it enough I will just HAVE to find a way :)

To Gemberly, I feel really bad that you didn't get in. You are an extremely smart individual and you will make it into a program. Again, I am so sorry and I will be hoping and praying for you to get that acceptance into Macomb. Keep your head up.;)

Thanks! Right now I just want to kick the counselor's butt who told me to not stretch myself and just apply at the following app period instead of the one I was focused on.

I mean, how could she know... but still. :p

Good, we can work through it together!

I will apply for Baker, too I guess. It can't hurt. LOL

Shannon, the work studies fall under FA. If I am not taking classes at Baker again (and unless I change my major there, I can't.) then I am not eligible anymore.

The other problem for me is that I have 4 kids. If I start working then I have to worry that I am making too much money for daycare help and financial aid anyway. I'm married, but we still don't make very much. I am sure it will work out.

You know, having a bunch of people tell you are are smart/intelligent is WAY better anyway than some 'toopid acceptance letter. :p :lol2:

Thanks guys! I am going to benefit on Horificen's Island tonight for a friend of mine I graduated with who found out she has Breast Cancer. So I will sit here and pout, no longer!

Have fun! I'm sure your friend appreciates your support.

Hey Gem I am so sorry,

Unfortunately I am with you....I also did not get accepted at baker...oh well, I am NOT reapplying in the fall as that I tore up the letter and said screw it. I will GET INTO MCC somehow, someway....I also can not get FA from MCC. I have been paying my classes, well I should say my credit card has been paying for the classes. I am going to wait until April and see if I get accepted into something at MCC. As for now I am going to find a job, save up some money, pay off my @*&%)#_#* loans from baker and keep going for it.

We are strong, smart and resiliant and we know that we will be great nurses one day. Saying prayers for your friend!

Congratulations to everyone who got in!!!

Laura
