Bad Contracts with Bad Agencies

Sorry to have to post something like this, but I have been receiving horror story after horror story the past few weeks, and there is absolutely no reason that you have to put up with any of those lies.

From DHEL28's agency placing 9 people in one apt without heat in NYC in the winter, and only one bathroom, they were told that accommodations were provided. And not even a bed, they had to buy that for themselves. To another agency incorrectly filling out documents so that the nurse got denied, then telling the nurse that the agency was going to pay for an attorney to go to Washington DC to correct things. But one year later they have not been resubmitted with the corrections, and number two, the immigration centers are not in Washington D.C. And this nurse was also told that the agency would know twenty seconds after arriving in the US that he was here. Impossible. And another that had a $25,000 cancellation policy but told that if she tried to leave, it would cost her about $100,000.

If you are having issues with your agency being untruthful and taking advantage of you, please contact the Embassy for your country here in the US, as well as the US Embassy in your home country where you had your interview.

Once you have arrived in the US, you cannot be deported. Do not let an agency threaten you with this. The green card gives you permanent residency.

Can anyone please pm me the list of bad and good agencies in the Philippines?

Thanks!

"please agency chaps be good to us !!!!! "

for me am lost in wildness somewhere at the edge of the world !:deadhorse

You still need to do your homework before signing with an agency. Because one agency was excellent last year, doesn't mean that they are now. In fact, several of those are on my "hit" list now. For taking advantage of nurses, and not living up to their part of the contract. So, if someone refers you to one, please check them out on your own. We have listed what you need to look for in a contract, as well as demand what needs to be in your contract. The rest is up to you.

Stating that they will provide housing for the first three months, then place nine or ten humans in one studio apt. This is even illegal to place this many animals in a studio apt in NY. And it has been happening, if they list housing, maks sure that they are explicit, apt on your own, or will you be sharing housing, will they provide furniture, such as even a bed?

There are thousands of agencies out there, and administration changes all of the time.

Today I talked with a nurse recruiter on phone, I was told that when the hospital sponsor a foreign nurse for greencard, usally it will be three-year contract signed between the hospital and the nurse. Is it normal? dont you think 3 years commitment is a bit long?

If they are paying any of your fees, and or giving you a relocation bonus, then it is very normal. Even for a US nurse that gets the relocation bonus, they need to sign at least a two year contract.

If you leave the facility before the end of the time, you need to reimburse them so much to buy out your contract.

How about that they neither pay the lawyer fee nor relocation bonus? But they can sponsor, in such case, usually How much I need to reimburse if I leave b4 the end of time?

What fee do they want to put in the contract? They are the ones that will usually give you a price, not you stating what you want. But if you are paying all of the fees, etc., thyen there should not be a cancellation fee, if there is, perhaps just a few thousand for the time it took to train you.

But if they are wanting the $20,000 that is so typical, run as fast as you can from them. They are way too shady to work for.

i know about colar goldwater hospital. they ask you to sign something like,"in exchange of sponsorship i will work in this hospital for not less than 3 years". they will neither pay for the lawyer nor the visa fee(uscis). they won't give any relocation bonus ......talk to the nurse recruiter herself about the penalty for breaching contract. if you have read the contract paper it doesn't mention anything about the buy out fee.

That is a rehab facility, not an acute care hosptial.

If they are telling you that you need to work there for three years and sign a contract stating such, then they are going to want some type of fee if you break the contract. Make sure that it is in the contract, exactly how much that it will be, or they could later on charge you any fee that they wish and you would be stuck.

Always, always make sure that these things are actually written into the contract. What happens if that recruiter is not there even two years from now, plus she doesn't have the responsibilities in her own job description to make these types of decisions. It must be written inot the contract that you sign, either you will have to pay some type of fee, or that you do not.

There are essentially only about two documents that the facility needs to fill out for the immigration attorney and then the attorney does the rest. If the nurse is paying 100% of everything, there should not be any type of contract that needs to be signed in the first place.

What are they giving you if you sign the contract? Sponsorship alone just doesn't cut it with me.

Thank you everyone the information. I think it is very helpful espically the POST NUMBER 57. Hope we ALL INTERNATIONAL NURSES STAY TOGETHER!!!
