Sorry to have to post something like this, but I have been receiving horror story after horror story the past few weeks, and there is absolutely no reason that you have to put up with any of those lies.
From DHEL28's agency placing 9 people in one apt without heat in NYC in the winter, and only one bathroom, they were told that accommodations were provided. And not even a bed, they had to buy that for themselves. To another agency incorrectly filling out documents so that the nurse got denied, then telling the nurse that the agency was going to pay for an attorney to go to Washington DC to correct things. But one year later they have not been resubmitted with the corrections, and number two, the immigration centers are not in Washington D.C. And this nurse was also told that the agency would know twenty seconds after arriving in the US that he was here. Impossible. And another that had a $25,000 cancellation policy but told that if she tried to leave, it would cost her about $100,000.
If you are having issues with your agency being untruthful and taking advantage of you, please contact the Embassy for your country here in the US, as well as the US Embassy in your home country where you had your interview.
Once you have arrived in the US, you cannot be deported. Do not let an agency threaten you with this. The green card gives you permanent residency.
Dear Friends: There is an issue on the other nurse's forum that just blew out of proportion. It was about nurses making demands of where they want to be placed in. I am not going to repost the whole argument over here, but the whole issue came up and blew out of proportion when someone representing a firm singled out Filipinos and said that Filipino RNs have an attitude where they can make demands on their employers. He said that their nurses are placed in facilities where there is a need; THEY WILL TELL WHEN AND WHERE. If we make such demands on where we will be placed, then we probably will not be considered. It is true that DEMANDING and NEGOTIATING are two different things, but is it really wrong to make some FAIR and REASONABLE demands for our own good?
I would really like to hear everyone's opinion.
(PS: You may PM me if you wish to get the link to the original poster).
I know exactly the post that you are referring to, and what was posted by that agency. First, he needs an attitude change and information change. Direct hire means placement with a facility, not working for the agency where your paycheck comes from them, but the facility where you are assigned.
He wants you to belong to them, and that is not right with a green card. It may have worked with the H1-B visa, but it doesn't anymore. You are your own person, and do not need to belong to anyone. And yes, a nurse should be able to select where they wish to work, not the agency telling you where and when you will work.
He wants Filipino nurses to work for him, but also be subservient to him, and that doesn't work. No human should be treated that way.
All I can say on the topic is tell your friends about that forum, and have them respond to him. Simple as that.
Guess that that agency can be added to our unofficial list. Especially with his so called treatment of nurses. It is purely unacceptable. You are in the US in a green card and should be treated as such. You are not any one's "slave" --you should not need to be told where you are going to work, what type of facility, etc. You are a professional and have trained as such. He is the one that is having issues, it is not us. And I am not from the Philippines.
Maybe the Filipino Consulate needs to give him a wake-up call, as well as the US Embassy in Manila. Or a few lawyers. If he is like this in his writings, what is he like in person?
Thank you all for your responses (nurseMargo, suzanne4, misswoosie, lawrence01). It is nice to see that the nurses on here (including myself :chuckle ), are working together to fight for our rights. I just feel bad for others who may not know or may be under such shameless agency's mercy. I am glad that Suzanne and the rest of you here have taken the necessary steps to reach the completion of the list. The good ones do deserve to stand out.

I tried explaining in the other forum, but that guy just won't get it. He was claiming that 99% of his nurses are "Philippinos", I just hope that those nurses can see what he posted.
Unbelievable, 99% of his business are Filipinos, but how dare he stereotyped and made general statement to Filipinos. :angryfire
Good luck to him in gettin nurses from the Philippines. Spread the word, my fellow Filipinos!:rotfl:

Exactly! I read this guy's threads to see if there is any progress in the attitude arena but he just won't stop... Unbelievable!!
Dhel, I'm with you on this. It's time to spread the word.:rotfl:
SuzanneAm presently going through the process of getting to the US with an agency, after the contract finishes in the US would like to continue with travel or agency work pls could you pm me with the list of bad/poor agency's
Thank you
Gale
There is no list, remember that it said unofficial list.
The travel company or agecny that you select later on is something completely different from what we are talking about here. And they vary widely with your area of expertise as well as location in the US that you wish to work.

These agencies are simply shameless, and treating people like slaves.
I think the answer is obvious. Nurses have the right not to "negotiate", but demand their wishes!!!:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
They forgot what "agency and agent" means. It's nurse's representative, someone, who runs around and gets things done for a certain price. Not a king of Agraba.:angryfire
