So here I am again, pulling my hair back, headband,no make up,whatever cloths, studying for Hesi,Nclex for the next couple of months, anyone else is the same?
Hmmm, I find it hard to believe you can't find time to spend on your appearance. After all, I see nursing students in my hospital who have their hair done and are wearing makeup and have ironed their scrubs.
Wow ironing their scrubs, washer and dryer does it for me,I never in my life ironed my scrubs.
I don't think that it's important to know how many people think you're a model. I also think it is very rude of your patients to be calling people fat and ugly (it doesn't offend me because I am far from fat...and, well, I have a husband so I can't be too horrid looking!), but we all know how patients can be at times.
Nursing students don't need to wear makeup if they don't want to, but showering and just being neat is a good way to show respect for yourself, your patients and your college's reputation. Above all, though, giving competent care is number one. Lovehospital--don't worry, you'll be fine.
Yeah that is true,I dont judge people by their looks,I dont like perfection...I find element of imperfections much more interesting,to be honest with you perfect is boring.

First of all, I would never condone a patient making rude comments. I was just making a point that patients do appreciate some one who puts atleast 5-10 minutes in grooming themselves. You're right ! It doen't matter how many times I've been called a model, and frankly I don't care ! Once again I was making a point ! Giving competent care is important and should be # 1, however your appearance should always be nice.
I've suffered c- low self-esteem most of my life, so by no means am I conceided( spelling), I'm just glad that patients do appreciate me looking nice and professiona;.

Lovehopsital, I bet you are a pretty lady, you don't need make up or anything to make you feel and look pretty. I've always been obsessed with make up. Started when I was little, and watching my mother get dolled up daily. Once, when I was little I put red nail polish on my lips because I couldn't find mommie's red lipstick.
I've also been given to a chance to work as a makeup artist, and so some other glamorous things. However, nursing is my passion... I digress.
Anyway, keep you good atitude provide best nursing care, and I'm sure your patients will appreciate that more " than how you at clinicals.
We'll all be beautiful once we graduate !

I think women suffer from low-esteem because society puts so much emphasis oh how a perfect woman should look:)

No need to be on the defense, and I never called you conceited. I was merely trying to say that your comment about people saying you should be a model was irrelevant to this post.
Anyway, I can appreciate the fact that you put time into caring for yourself (ie;showering, being neat) because I've had classmates that seem to veto those things....if you know what I mean!!:barf01:
I'm a fan of makeup myself (I have an orificenal of Bobbi Brown and Chanel goodies in my master bathroom) but just can't find the time in the morning to slap a little bit on. Ahh, if only there were more than 24 hours in a day....

there was a girl i went to nursing school with who when we got into our last few semesters quit showering, i think. she had horribly offensive body odor. thank god my CI mentioned something to her.
girl, i'm a makeup fiend myself. if i wasn't a nurse, i'd work at sephora, lol. i kept a little bit of makeup in my purse so i can touch up... i worked full time in nrsg school and went right to class for 5 hrs or did nite clinicals... so without makeup and only 2-3 hours of sleep, i looked haggard.
benefit has this great product called eye bright, it's a pink pencil that you just blend under your eyes--it takes like 5 secs, and it perks your eyes right up. i also keep a mini mascara, moisturizer and bigelow menthol lip gloss (the smell would wake me up--and also helps mask some unpleasant smells at the hospital). i would just run in the bathroom and spend 2 minutes fixing my face. when i didn't look exhausted, i didn't feel so exhausted.
Wow,you really pleasantly surprised me!!! I thought guys like dolls:)))
My husband tells me he fell in love with me the first time he saw me in grubby clothes and no makeup. I do wear makeup and fix my hair, but it is not a "must"---I have no problem going out of the house with my hair pulled back or in a baseball cap and no makeup.
I agree with pp....what's most important is what's inside of you and driving you. Nobody really cares if you have makeup on, so long as you are clean and well-groomed.
If/Once you have kids, you'll learn how to do a shower, makeup and hair in 20 minutes flat (of course after the first several months of doing none of the above on a daily basis).
Trust me, your priorities will change with maturity and possible the addition of little people to your life.

Wow can I transfer to your school since once I came to clinicals looking sharp and almost got send home..anyway I'm no model but I'm not Freddy Kruger either, hmm and today I was told that I look sooo much like a nurse, that my looks fit the nursing appearance (hmmm, strange)But it made my day and I was even more happier than at times that when someone compliment me on my looks.
