For a good chunk of the US college population, what you describe is normal.

If it bothers you then take 5 minutes and put a little makeup on. There is no reason for nursing school to take over your life. And please don't lump all of us nursing students into your "ugly nursing student" comments. If you feel ugly because you aren't taking care of yourself, then do something about it. It really doesn't take any time to make yourself presentable, plus I think you'll feel better if you do.

silverbells I reread her OP and don't see where she clumped all nursing students together what so ever. I also don't see being clean, comfy, and not wearing make up as "not taking care of yourself"? Now if the OP is skipping showers and not brushing her teeth THEN I would agree with you.
Personally, on my school days I put my hair back, but I do my bangs and put on makeup and perfume and my clothes are clean and unwrinkled, so I'm happy. On days when I have nothing to do but sit home and study, I see no reason to put make up on or do my hair personally. Your face will thank you for giving it a break from make up anyways IMO.
But then, when I "go out" a lot of times I just throw on some tinted SPF moisturizer and lipgloss and call it a day so doing that at home doesnt feel frumpy to me at all.

people of confidence don't worry about what others say about their appearance if they are clean and dress neatly. i suspect that the only one hinting that you are "an ugly nursing student" is you and i am so saddened to hear you speaking like this of yourself. do you not know how what a wonderful special being you are to undertake this profession? inner beauty, compassion and empathy are what are required to be here. some of us happen to think that far outweighs good looks by a mile. there is no makeup in the world that you can put on that will give you instant compassion, gentleness and empathy. you either have it or you don't. so, don't sell yourself short, kiddo. people who work with the ill have an inner beauty that far surpasses physical beauty. no uniform, hair doodads, jewelry or makeup in the world can make someone a beautiful person if the personality and character underneath it all isn't beautiful to begin with.
Theres always this...

:chuckle That is a good video. I think that the one guy is just a little TOO excited. Bad acting.
I definitely relate to the OP. It's not that I feel overly ugly, it's just that I feel, well, a bit like a hermit when classes are in session. I spend much less time outside of my house (except for work, school, clinical) and thus don't fix myself up as much. It's not that I skip showers or fail to brush my teeth - I can't imagine not being clean - but you just don't put as much effort into how you look when you are just hanging out at home studying.
I also agree with Daytonight....your beauty on the inside is what really matters for this profession. I know a few people who are technically pretty on the outside, but the fact that they are ugly on the inside overshadows everything else.

I so disagree! My honey is Polish and he's super duper hot!
I think he meant "we" as in students, not Polish people! lol!
