If I may make a comment...

Communication is a huge part of nursing especially in the highly-technical world we Canadian nurses are practicing in. Fluency in the English language is an imperative for effective communication, both in clinical situations and in the documenting of care. You don't want to be misunderstood in an emergency or to have important patient information confused because of how a note was worded. More and more patients' charts are finding their way into courtrooms around the country so clear, objective and concise documentation is a necessity. Please use your posts here to practice your language skills so that when you begin documenting care here no one in a courtroom 10 years later will have to ask you to interpret what you've written. Pay attention to spelling, punctuation, the way words and appropriate abbreviations are used and how sentences are structured. This is a professional forum where professionals discuss professional matters, so it's the perfect place to sharpen your language skills.

Great news pickles!!! Really pleased for you :)

@ Gailtan and Pickles

this forum had been a great help.. Im just having a hard time to decide whether i need to pursue my application to CNO. regarding their requirement # 6..I read from cno.org that in order to be registered in the organization you need to be a canadian citizen, a visa holder, resident..well..just base it to the web... what is your idea with this.. this requirement makes me feel hesitant for assessment since its very hard for nurses to have a canadian visa even just a tourist visa.

Hi Solenn,

I asked about the visa thing, I was concerned about this aswell. The person I spoke to said that you do NOT require a work permit/visa for assessment however that you will need it to register. The way that I am thinking is that if you are assessed as eligible for registration then you can apply for a job, once you have a job offer it is (from what I understand) easier to get a visa which will then allow you to register.

It is of course up to you and depends on how much you want to become a nurse in Canada.

Message me if you want :)

@ funkycat

thanks dear..it helped a lot..however with the increasing unemployment rate in canada and the trend of the embassy where there's only a thousand of visa released per skilled category a year, its really a sad fact. yeah..my conviction is not that strong in pursuing the assessment

Hi Solenn

Where abouts are you from, I looked on your profile but couldn't find where you were from :(

hi funkycat.I updated my profile just a while ago. Its nice to know that this site has been very helpful for all of us nurses

Yes it is very helpful, makes it slightly less frustating to know that I'm not the only one waiting lol!!

I guess it's up to you what you decide, you could do the assessment from there and apply for jobs from home if you get approved and then worry about the visa after?

Good luck whatever you decide :)

To the second coursers who applied with CNO, did you also submit the Verification of Course Completion and Transcript Request to the school or university where you had your first degree? If yes, at what stage of the application did you submit this?

I was just thinking this may have a positive impact in the assessment for equivalency if CNO would know that we had previous degree prior to BS Nursing in order to compensate for the lacking years in our primary and secondary years.

Please share your insights and experiences on this. Thank you.

I finished BS Medical Technology(BSMT) prior to my BSN. I did not submit verification of course completion and transcript request from the school where I attended my BSMT. CNO only requested subject description of all the degree that I finished, since some of my subjects from BSMT were credited to my BSN.

Hope this information help;)
