Support group for CRNE June 2011
Hi guys.. I know.. June 1st is coming and I am somewhat anxious but I am not letting my anxiety eat me.. Just trying to relax and thinking positive! Anyway, I did not purchase the online readiness test since I have 3 past CRNE prep guides that I think I have repeated almost twice to really absorb the way they format the questions in the CRNE. I am enough with the theories, and also currently reading the CRNE competencies. I am just hoping for the best.. And praying to God that He will guide me on the day of the exam. Any more tips and words of encouragement guys? Thanks! And God bless us all.

Help!RN from the Philippines now a Permanent Resident in Ontario
hi pickles!! are u a nurse in Ontario now? did u have your credentials assessed as RPN also? can u give me some insight on how can i pursue my nursing career here in Ontario because right now I don't have job ang just waiting for the CNO's response to my application. Should I apply for RPN? did u take the bridging course or anything? sorry for bothering you with lots of question. i find your story very interesting and almost exactly like mine. Hi! To answer some of your questions, yes, I have been assessed as an RPN and currently practicing. I did not take any bridging course but I did enrol some subjects in George Brown College. I would suggest to visit CARE for nurses website: care4nurses.org. The organization really helped me in my transition as a nurse here in Canada. Now, Im going to take the CRNE after almost 3 years of being here in Canada. It took a while but the wait is all worth it

This is only a guess ok.. But I think the examination starts in the morning since my friends who took it last February said so.

baccalaureate equivalency table from CNO
It really depends on how the College will assess you and as people usually tell you in the forum, its a case to case basis. CNO did not grant me my eligibility to sit for the CRNE, thats why I filled up the BET and provided them with necessary documents to meet my equivalency. You must also understand that CNO is being fair to all and their job is to protect the public, that is why sometimes it will take "too much effort" just to be able to practice here in Ontario. :)

No. I only see one name which is my assessor's. It is also a relief in my part knowing the name and contact details of her. I emailed her a couple of times re: my status and she left me a message on my phone with regards to supplying more documents that will help me in my application.

Oh yah, I suppose it is a case to case basis. Though I am positive that you will know the name of your assessor in the future. :)

^ Actually they do tell the name of your assessor with their email address and extension number of their office at CNO.

I have read the compedium during my Nursing in Ontario course and I really can say that it gives me a whole new perspective of what nursing in Ontario is. It is like the "holy book" for all nurses here. You should know the standards of practice by heart.

Hi! Here in Toronto review courses usually starts early like February or March. Where are you located though? Completing practice exams are a a really good practice.

Prospective international nursing student in Canada
Hi just to add, it really comes down whether you meet all the requirements set by the CNO (since you said you are coming here in Ontario) such as educational requirements, status in canada, safe years of practice, language fluency etc.before you can practice in Canada. You can however practice anywhere else since you are a BSN degree holder, but again it depends on the state/country's assessment of your education.

To Jay: I got the reply after 3 months. And yes I filled up another form for RPN and paid the fee as well. I am not really sure about the documents since its been a while since I submitted mine, but I guess they will use the same documents that they already have, just clarify this to them. And Hampton, no, I did not complete the bridging program for IENs but I took some courses at George Brown College

baccalaureate equivalency table from CNO
Hi jay.. I did reply to your email but here is the answer to your inquiry. After receiving the reply from CNO that I am not BScN equivalent with the BET forms, I submit another application to be RPN eligible. The reason I did that is because I want to have some option just in case CNO refuses my appeal to become BScN equivalent. That process (RPN) took me 3 mos. of waiting, just in time finishing my courses at George Brown College, in which I took electively as part of knowing and learning nursing practice here in Ontario. I took the exam last year and passed. As for my RN, CNO did grant the BScN equivalency and they allowed me to take the CRNE. Filling the BET took me a lot of time because I want to do my best in proving myself as BScn equivalent. A lot of revisions, grammar check etc. I did not rush because once your papers are in, you cant take it back. Its a make or break. Moreover, I did send some documents such as my job description, other credentials from my MA back home, and assessment from York University. Thats it. Hope that helps.

Jobs for zero number of RN/RPN experience
I am just wondering since I am browsing job opportunities for both RNs and RPNs. It always say on job postings that there should be x number of years in nursing to qualify for a job. I am thinking how could a newly graduate nurse or IEN (Internationally Educated Nurses) can jumpstart their careers if nobody wants to hire them since they have 0 number of years experience. It is so discouraging in my opinions. Any inputs?

Thank you guys for all the inputs that you wrote. I am doing the simulation of the exam maybe a month before the big day. Just to see if I can do 200 questions in one sitting. I remember when I took my licensure exam from back home (IEN nurse here), a really effective strategy is to do a mock exam, the same time as if you are doing the real thing. Another helpful thing too is to have a calendar of what to topics to review. And also utilize different methods of review such as watching videos, surfing important websites, little note taking, etc.
