NAU accelerated Nursing 2010

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I am applying for the accelerated nursing this Jan 2010 for the start in MAY 2010. Is there anyone else out there applying this go round? I would appreciate any info from former graduates or nursing students on advice and their experience. I think that I have a good chance of getting in. PLEASE POST!!!!!!:redpinkhe

I get in state tuition and the program is running me around 20K. I have no idea what out of state tuition would be like. But it's so funny that you mentioned the HRSA scholarship...because I actually got it! I am the only one at NAU to have ever gotten it so that's pretty exciting! The scholarship is a lifesaver cause I get my tuition and fees 100% covered PLUS I get a $1300 a month living stipend on top of it. Definately apply for it if you have a 0 EFC on your FAFSA. If not, don't bother...they don't grant the scholarship to people with a higher than 0 EFC. NAU also got some of the $10,000 Robert Wood Johnson Scholarships as well. I, too, got one of those. Apply to that cause the odds should be pretty good. I think they had 15 of them for my class alone, so basically half the students in my class got $10,000. Of course there are always loans, etc. Apply your living hearts out for scholarships...I did, and not only is my schooling free as a result, but I'm getting paid to go on top of it! Did you find out if you got accepted yet??? Good luck, HTH!

Oh, and the HRSA scholarship is awarded each fall, but is retroactive back to July 1, so definately apply!

crappppp. well I am 22 so my parents are still claiming me as a dependant so my efc is definately not zero. I applied for all the NAU nursing scholarships available including the rwjf which i hope i get. I am trying to calculate tuition out but I dont know if I am doing it right so correct me where I am wrong, so far I have two fall semesters at about 8,000 each, one spring semester at about 8,000 again, and two summers which according to the nau website are cheaper and it doesnt look like it matters whether you are out of state or in state. The first summer should be about 4,000 based on 13 credits and the second should be about 3,000 based on 8 credit units. so Im looking at about 31k for the whole program not including books, supplies, and living expenses. HOLY CRAP. I better be getting some scholarship money or I am going to broke for a long long long time. Now Im starting to get a little stressed......

ok another question haha yay..... how possible is work during the program. Im not talking anywhere near full time just a couple times a week. Its a job where I could study while there so its nothing serious and it promises to help BIG time with tuition. I know the nursing office told me I could work a limited amount but I was wondering what actual accelerated students do. Its hard for me to believe that people are actually able to pay for this without working at all. sorry to bug you with all the questions but its really helpful to know what I am up against from someone with first hand experience. so Im super grateful for all ur help!

I got my letter today and I got in!!! Im beyond excited but now Im scared about how fast I have to figure out the logistics! ahhhhhh! yay! anyone else get letters yet?:D:D

congrats !!!! thats great... I have been checking my mail and nothing yet and leave on vacation to arizona today so I'm bummed I'll miss the letter coming.. Although, I don't think I could attend even if I was accepted since the start date is May 10th. thats so early I had someone tell me forever ago that it was the end of may. but still hoping to get in and figure out something with this last prereq. congrats again!

Hey everyone! I have read all your posts and I just got my acceptance today! If anyone else gets any information that might be pertinent to the acceptance process, let me know! I can't wait to start and meet you guys! Although, like the post above I have to approve with my pre req instructors that I can finish their classes early, but I think it will work out. Congratulations KV! -Valerie

I got my packet in the mail today too and I got in! YAY! I still can't believe it. I'm also in the same boat as the other couple of posters here. I have prereqs I'm still finishing which do not wrap up until towards the end of May but I'm thinking that it'll all work out. I'm planning on begging and talking to my professors about it. I do need to definitely figure out lots of logistics still but I'll worry about that when I'm off my "high".

I can't wait to meet all of you when I move to Flagstaff! Congratulations KV and Vepeters!

By the way, KV- you won't have to worry about being too young because I am 22 also! However, I turn 23 the day after the program starts. Lizette, I also live in SF and I have basically the exact same situation as you with the pre reqs! I'm so glad that others are in the same boat!! Let me know how that goes for you- I'm pretty nervous about it. I might employ crying and/or shameless begging. Good luck to everyone else with their letters and business!!

Hi Vepeters... Cool, you live in SF also. I actually live in Burlingame. Where are you from? Yeah, I'm hoping something will work out for me in terms of the prereqs. I'm fairly positive it will. I really wanna go to NAU, but I am still waiting to hear back from a couple of more schools, so we'll see. But odds are, I'll be attending NAU.

I got my acceptance letter today too !!! well, my mom got it while I was at spring training but she called me saying it wast the Big envelope and I have been accepted !!

lizette and vepeters - i am from the bay area too. Marin to be be specific, thats great there are so many bay area ppl thinking about flagstaff. I am thinking of driving up to flagstaff tomorrow to check it out since I am in phoenix for the weekend... might be cool to check it out right?

Soooo.. for those of you with pre reqs that are ending in may. what is your plan?? The nau program is scheduled to start May 10th which is so early that its almost impossible to be in a spring class and be done by that date. technically, my micro final is not until may 24th ! I am kinda worried. and its all so soon, two months from now.

I am doing my pros and cons now and would love any additional information especially since I have not seen the actual packet with info yet. Does it give a lot of detail about tuition and everything needed to start?? I have also been accepted to a really good program that is in omaha but would not start until january so trying to decide if nau is right for me.. goodjob to those that got in!

Congrats Katsie! It's pretty exciting how there are a few of us who might be heading to Flagstaff in a couple of months. Today, the reality did set in that this is happening all so soon.

My plan for the prereqs is to contact my profs. IMMEDIATELY. I'm thinking of writing a carefully worded e-mail to explain to them my situation and I'm hoping that since this is a really good opportunity ahead of me that they'd understand. I'll let you know if I'm successful or not. I'm also thinking of talking to NAU on Monday and explain to them the situation. I'm sure they've been faced with this before and I'll see if they have any recommendations.

I'm still waiting myself for 2 other schools, both starting in the Fall though... So if I hear back soon from one of them, then I might end up going to school for that term. However, I have dreamt of going to NAU. I think the big draw for me is the small class size, the atmosphere (I love Sedona and it's nice that it's close enough), and I've read from previous posts that there are possible scholarships available for the students. I also like the fact that the rent is going to be cheap for me and my husband when compared to where I live now.

Katsie, the packet contains the offer letter but I did not see any info on financial aid. I've been going to their website trying to figure that out myself, but I did compare the overall cost of NAU to other schools and it looks like to finish the program, the range is between 30K to 50K... Still cheaper than if I had gone to a school East Coast like Rochester (which is 70K I believe). Perhaps someone else can chime in on the actual cost of NAU. It also contains some info on what we need to submit by March 31 (health records etc.).

So there was talk before about the program being 12 months long instead of 18... is that the case for this May?

Good luck to all the others still waiting!
