Average GPA

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Does anyone know that is the average GPA for entry into a nursing program? I currently hold a 3.4. :uhoh3:

You have got to be kidding me. "B's as a nurse are, in my opinion, skating on the edge." I understand that students should strive to do the best they can (especially considering the extremely competitiveness among nursing schools). However, people who get B's in pre-nursing classes and nursing classes are not going to make any less of a nurse.

That is agreed for sure, I don't think the poster was commenting on a view but rather how it is in many schools. My school accepts students on GPA the fall canidates got picked my friend with a 3.86 got turned down. They only take 12 people in the fall 10 are GPA 2 are lottery. 300+applicants. I am applying in the fall I have a 4.0 they take 24 I am hoping my chances are increased but I know I am not a shoe in and something could happen where I don't get in.

I currently have a 4.0 but to get in the program you need at least a 2.3. Yeah right the school would never let anyone in the program with a 2.3. The average is like 3.6 of the students that were accepted. Its so competitive. ITs horrible!

Thats the same here its a 2.5 if you went to my schools website and looked up the program it would say a minimum of 2.5 but that is just not the reality, that is just the minimum to try and enroll with. You also have to maintain a 3.0 throughout the program.

Our cutoff was 3.55 last year, but our minimum requirements is a 2.5

Yeah, I was deffinately talking how the system works at my school. I have been told that getting any C's in the nursing program can get you kicked out but I don't know if it is true. I totally agree that there should be more concern then just about grades. I also found out that if you have even a small misdemenor, you can't get into the program for 10 years!!! I think that is outrageous. People make dumb mistakes, it shouldn't mean that you can not get into a profession of helping others because of one mistake.

Yeah, and at least in the nursing school I'm going to, the grading scale is completely different. Anything below a 75 is failing, so if you have a C average GPA before you even get accepted into the program they probably expect that you will struggle.

I agree, I have been absolutely working my butt off for the last three years and I ran into a little trouble at a party last summer. So now I'm sitting on nails hoping that it won't prevent me from getting accepted. :o
