Hi--can anyone tell me how to import avatars from outside this website?--It kind of gives us that option on the avatar page and I cannot figure it out. Some members have some cool avatars and I need your feedback.

I need more help! I saved avatar to my computer in my documents. It saved in bitmap format but I can't use that here. Needs gif or something else, can't remember. How do I get it in the proper format???

I don't know if you have any graphics applications on your computer, but if you open the image in MS Paint (which everyone has -- go to Start menu, click Programs > Accessories > Paint), you can select Save As from the File menu, then change the file type. Under Save as type:, you would select GIF from the drop-down list. (GIF images tend to be smaller than BMPs, I think, so that *might* help!)

Note: However, if the file is larger than 100 x 100 px anyway, it won't post on this site, AND if you try shrinking it or changing the pixels, it will only appear fuzzy and/or tiny, so if it's still too large even saved with the different file format, you're better off trying to save a different avatar (smaller file) to your desktop and trying again with that.

Have you tried the web sites mentioned above...? I checked them out and love the abi-station.com one! Haven't tried uploading yet, though....

Even though I'm not the one who asked about this, I could just HUG YOU for this info!! :) I've been having problems with my computer saving photos as bitmap files for the past year. I don't know why it switched from jpg to bmp (maybe one of my kids screwed up the computer somehow...who knows? lol). But, I couldn't do ANYTHING with bmp photos on the net, and it was sooo frustrating! I asked lots of people how to fix it (my scroll down menu in pictures wasn't giving me any choices), and no one knew how to help me. So, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! :)

Glad I could be of some help, Angel! I'm not fond of bitmap images, either! I deal with this stuff at work since we use graphics and word processing programs (I'm a "wannabe" nurse!), and I usually try to always save screenshots and other pics as GIF images, over JPEG (very clear, best for photos! but large in size) or TIFF (huge files, take up too much space, yuck!) images. We never use BMP files (not the best resolution). :D

Well, thanks again!! I've had so much fun today changing all my photos to JPEG and getting to use them online....FINALLY!!

As for being a "wannabe" nurse, I am too. :rolleyes: I'm a dental hygienist, and I'm going back to school in January to become an RN. :)

I used a free pic posting site called Photobucket.

Unfortunately Photobucket it not currently accepting new free accounts. I was bummed because I was looking for an easy way to save images for use in posts. I know I can open a new website of my own in Geocities or one of the other free web hosting sites but I was hoping for something simpler. Does anyone know of any other sites like Photobucket?
