Austin RN needs preceptor and facility with orientation to satisfy TexasBRN requirement

Published

Does anyone have any knowledge of a facility that has taken on RN's with a preceptor, offering orientation that the texas BRN will recognize. I am in Austin Texas. My license was revoked and now that my revoke meant time is up the BRN will be allowing me a 6-month permit to refresh my skills. The BRN told me that there are facilities that will hire nurses as a permit nurse and provide an orientation for the nurse to satisfy their requirement so that the board will ultimately give the nurse (me) back their permanent license.

does anyone have any knowledge of a facility that has done this in the Austin area?

im having a hard time finding one.

evidently, according to the board, they exist.

thank you!

I will soon be in the same boat. Were you able to find someone, or some place that was helpful with this?

Also, good luck and I hope all is well. I would love to know how everything goes for you. I am just starting the whole process. I most likely will be required to have probation.

Have a great day!

I have never seen this. There are some schools that offer refresher courses.

In order to get the six month permit, doesn't Texas require you to take a board approved refresher course? The refresher courses usually find you a preceptor/facility where you can get your hours done.

This one is board approved and may do online plus classes in Austin:

Rn Refresher Course - Nurse Refresher Course - Nursing School Houston - Immunizations Houston

ETA:

Evidently the in person classes are in Houston or Dallas. Could you get to one of those loations?

Did you ever find a preceptor?

LTC/SNF was the answer

I have never seen this. There are some schools that offer refresher courses.

There are schools, in Austin and all over the country that offer refresher courses. The 6 month permit is to finish the course with a preceptor in a clinical setting. The catch is, you have to find your own preceptor and facility willing to allow you to do so.

It is not an easy task and the schools do not offer assistance with this, and neither does the board. At least here in Texas.

The refresher course I linked that has classes in Houston and Dallas does help find preceptors. At least it used to.

Again I say LTC/SNF
