Austin Community College Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Published

Any Fall 2011 ACC hopefuls out there? I start my nursing skills class in March and am very excited. I'm reapplying next week for the Fall. If I calculated my ranking correctly I should make it in.

Good luck everyone!

Have you seen the new labs at that campus?

No, have you and how are they?

I haven't, I want to go peek around before i make my choice on which campus to attend.

Have you taken or are taking your skills and where?

I took that a year ago, I chose to defer last semester, so I will start in the fall. I did the skills at Eastview, and the labs are ok, I just want to explore all of my options.

Specializes in Radiation Oncology.

The labs at Round Rock are brand new. We are only the second round of students to use it this semester. They also have a state-of-the art SIM lab with manequins that sweat, blink, talk, seizure, and programmable vital signs. Pretty cool and the simulation days with those are crazy stressful!

Anyone else taking nursing skills at Eastview starting 5/23?

Hey guys,

for those of you who have young children and go to school..

How difficult it is to combine family and school? Do you also work? My kiddo will be starting Kindergarten this fall, I will be in nursing school. I heard the school load is pretty tough.. so do I need to have somebody else take care of my daughter while I am in school and do homework? what is the approximate schedule for the nursing school? I know they talk about it in the orientation, but I would rather hear it from real parents- nursing students and how they are dealing with it..

I would like to plan ahead and get some help if needed rather than risking failing in nursing school. Thanks for any feedback!

I am in Level 4 at CEC and I love it! It has been a wonderful experience and I am glad I got placed there (since I thought I wanted the hybrid....). Additionally, most of my classmates have jobs, so it is possible....but be prepared to really go after the job you want!! Good luck to you all!

ps. if you are looking for used scrubs, search Craigslist

mwski,

since you're in level4 you are probably a good person to ask...

Is there anything else besides scrubs that I can purchase ahead of time? I don't mind used stuff.

Thank you so much!

Stethoscope and white shoes (yes, all white and I suggest leather). Once I got my acceptance into the program, I started buying my Level 1 books one at a time. I ordered off Amazon and bought used when I could. But, believe it or not, the Lewis Med-Surg book is worth buying new because you will use the dickens out of it.

The student association sells used scrubs as a fund raiser at the beginning of the semester but I know a couple of students are selling on Craigslist... :D

Good luck!

To those that are taking Nursing Skills this semester:

Did you buy the book package at ACC book store? Do you even use the study guide and DVD or just the book?

Thanks in advance!
