Austin Community College (ACC)

Published

Good morning allnurses.com viewers,

I just submitted my application to ACC for Spring 2009 and I am VERYYYY nervous. This program is so intimidating knowing it's past concerning waitlists and (though very doubtful) I wish to be accepted on the first attempt.

I am just wondering if anyone here in Austin has gone to the information sessions, talked to the chairman (woman), or has any information on what the waitlist is supposed to look like for Spring 2009.

Also, what ranking points is usually the cut-off for the waitlist? I have searched forums and some people have 45-50 ranking points (which is amazing and I congratulate you guys), but how many ranking points is it usually before they deny your admittance to the program?

Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Sincerely,

FilipinOOO

p.s. this is my first post so go easy on me:saint:

Hey texascna06,

How did your long A&P class go??

Specializes in Geriatrics, Med/Surg, hospice.

Sorry for the delayed reply for some reason I am not getting updates sent to my email anymore?? Anyway, my first AP class lasted from 8AM until about 230PM I could not believe we got out almost 2 hours early the first day of class! It is hard to tell much from the first day even a long one but I really belive that I am going to like this class. I really like Dr. *** so far, he is nice, relaxed and has a great sense of humor.

Also, I really really am enjoying medical terminology so far. Very easy, just a lot of knew terms to memorize. Mrs. ****** is great!!!

Dr. *** is great!!

Good!! I have heard great things about ***. My friend is taking ****** for Pharmacology and he really likes her too. I can't imaging being in class that long though.....uuughhh!! I am taking a Spanish class this summer which is 3 and a half hours and it is painful to be in there for that long!

It was SO hard that first day. I had to work until midnight the night before so I was very very tired for the first couple of hours of lecture.

I am going to try and get Bodman for pharmacology next semester.

Does anyone know anything about getting financial aide from ACC? Unfortunately I am unable to get any FAFSA aide but was wondering if it's still possible to get some from the school itself?

All my summer plans went up in smoke: :uhoh3: I ended up with Dr ****** for the 6 week anatomy class this summer--she's a great teacher but SAC is a long way from home. First six weeks I have Statistics by ***** @ Cyprus.

Fall schedule is better but ***** *****'s class was 50% full before the first opening registration date--go figure!!

Anyway I have ****** for Micro and Santana for Pharmacology--all booked and paid for.

Good thing I like hot dogs and beans.

How about ratings on *******and *******? Anyone ever have them for other classes??

Well I didn't realize I was able to register for classes until yesterday! I really wanted anatomy again this fall semester but unfortunately all the teachers left have less than desirable reviews. I decided that since I am going to do the LVN route and my Intro to AP class covers it for the program I would go ahead and take Micro and have that covered. A nice bonus is that if I do well in the class, I won't have to take it in the LVN program so whatever semester that is, I will have a little less on my plate. I was able to get Bodman for pharmacology which I am excited about! :)

I want to take another class this fall semester but I am not sure what.... I haven't taken any history classes or anything for the BSN requirements and to be honest, history is NOT my strong point even a little. Does anyone have any rec's for relatively easy history professors?

Are you sure you absolutely have to take history as a BSN requirement? Maybe something along the lines of art history or music history would be more appealing. How about a trip to Europe via the ACC history department tours and the prof guiding? Be sure you read & understand all the fine print in the college catalog and work with at least two advisors.

Hope my suggestions help.

Hi everyone. Bo, I'm pretty sure you have to have history for most BSN degrees. And while I would LOVEEE to study abroad, that is just not an option for me unfortunately :(

How are everyone's summer classes going? I am doing well in my classes so far. Just started the skeletal system in A&P and it's pretty tough but interesting. I am so glad that there are so many great resources online.

Uuughhh this summer is dragging!! I am taking co-reqs this summer and they are so boring! An online speech class, online Intro to Psych class starts July 8th and a Spanish 1 class (super easy) which we are there for 3 and a half hours twice a week....can't wait until this summer is over. I guess I should enjoy the "easy" classes now huh?

Yah enjoy the easy classes because the ACC ADN Program is NOT EASY at all. I started with a 4.0 and graduated in may with a 3.3 i only made 1 A during the whole 2 years. Now then, i didn't kill myself to know every single book fact... lol... as if that would have helped anyway...

Here's how it goes 75 to 82 is a C. 83 to 92 is a B. 93 and up is an A.

Usually you have 4 unit tests and 1 cumulative final for every semester.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PICK ***** **** or ********* ******* as your Clinical Instructor for your first semester.

  • Don't even consider taking any classes under ****** ***** in the math department.

She seems unable to comprehend students questions. Spoken English is fine but she reads word for word out of the textbook.

For example from one of her tests "how many lighting strikes would hit the ground?" My answer 100% of lighting strikes hit the ground. Not correct statistically according to her. Zero points.

After pointing out numerous English errors in quizes and exams throughout the semester she never once apologized to the class.
