Austin Community College (ACC)

U.S.A. Texas

Good morning allnurses.com viewers,

I just submitted my application to ACC for Spring 2009 and I am VERYYYY nervous. This program is so intimidating knowing it's past concerning waitlists and (though very doubtful) I wish to be accepted on the first attempt.

I am just wondering if anyone here in Austin has gone to the information sessions, talked to the chairman (woman), or has any information on what the waitlist is supposed to look like for Spring 2009.

Also, what ranking points is usually the cut-off for the waitlist? I have searched forums and some people have 45-50 ranking points (which is amazing and I congratulate you guys), but how many ranking points is it usually before they deny your admittance to the program?

Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Sincerely,

FilipinOOO

p.s. this is my first post so go easy on me:saint:

You might try showing up for a class and seeing if someone drops in the first few days. You probably couldn't go to lab, but a professor might let you into class for lecture and then try to register during the add/drop period. Seems like in my classes, after the first day, at least one or two people dropped.

Good luck. It's so frustrating!

okay just in case anybody stumbles onto this thread in the future with the same question I had, I ended up going to the Round Rock campus yesterday (Saturday) to take the Biology Assessment test for Anatomy, got there at 1030am, finished the test at 11 they graded it on the spot using a scantron machine and the woman said it would be put in the ACC system by 2 or 3 that afternoon. So I was able to register for class this morning (Sunday).

I ended up getting into ********'s course at RGC. Anybody have her? the reviews on ratemyprof seem to be pretty bipolar.

Also, I wanted to get into the first 6 wk session but it was full, so I might be looking to switch if a spot in *****' opens up. Am I right in that the only way to do this is just constantly check the schedule for an open slot? That's kind of a pain...oh well I'm just happy I got in to something. I was getting pretty nervous there for a bit.

texascna06, did you end up getting into a class?

oh also, the online review that ACC has made for the assessment test covers everything you need to know, most of the "self-test" questions were on the test verbatim. takes about an hour and a half. i haven't taken bio since highschool 7 years ago and I passed easy after skimming the review.

might_atom,

I have a friend who took Flemming for Physiology and she really liked her. Also, my friend who is a counselor at ACC asked the other faculty who they would recommend and alot of them named ********. But to each their own. Let us know how the class is.

I did not end up being able to get into the regular anatomy class. As a back up I got in to *M. ***'s intro to A&P class. I am going to keep checking back every day though!

I wrote Dr. ****** about her 6 week course and she said she felt it was not wise to work and take the 6 week class. What a shame though because she is a sweet sweet woman! Took the time to not only answer my question but give me extra advice and offer me her phone number if I had any other questions!! If I can't get into the class this summer I am definitely going to try and get her during the fall!

You will love ***!!! I have a friend who is just finishing up her 1st semester in the nursing program and she took *** back when *** was teaching the regular Anatomy. She swore by that professor!! She really loved the class. So I think you will not be disappointed with that decision. Also, a side not, dont get too discouraged, once you take and pass the Into to A&P course, you can take Pharmacology and at least get that class out of the way in the following semesters also.

That is good to hear! My plan is to apply for the LVN program and I will be able to do that in December. So I guess I will be taking Intro A&P and Med. Term this summer (both pre-req's for the LVN program, but I wanted to take actual anat. and phys. so that they would count for both programs... ah well) and anatomy and pharmacology in the fall.

Does anyone know of any LVN - BSN programs in Texas? I know that UT Tyler offers a program but are there any others?

Well yesterday officially started the summer session @ ACC. I am not sure if I am the only one or not, but I am finding it extremely difficult to get myself motivated. Maybe it is because I am not taking any "nursing" science classes this summer. I am re-taking College Algebra to raise my grade from when I took it 10 years ago, Spanish 1 for my elective, and an online speech class. It is hard for me to get into a non-science way of thinking right now after taking Anatomy, Intro to Micro, and Pharmacology the last 2 semesters. Okay, that is all, just had to vent! Who else is taking summer classes??

I am taking speech, too. But not online. I looked up my professor on ratemyprofessor.com and he had horrible reviews so I dropped the online class and am taking a short semester M/W night class (filled with HS kids!). You are right though; it is hard to stay motivated when you aren't taking any science/nursing classes.

Haha! Yeah my M/W Algebra night class at Northridge has a bunch of high school kids which really shocked me. I go tonight to a 4 hour Spanish class at Cypress and I am so sleepy already......uuuughhhh!!

I have started my medical terminology class at Eastview with * ****** and so far I really enjoy her and her class! I don't have my A&P class until Saturday, I am ready to start the learning but not looking forward to 8 hours of class every Saturday... but, it gets me out of work and at least it's only for the summer!

Usually I find math and science classes exciting.

There are exceptions however. Take Math 1342 statistics taught by **** ***** and you might need first aid when your head hits the table due to boredom. When she asks a question and no one responds she wrongly assumes it is because everyone understands her.

If you can't read English, this is the class for you because all she does is read from the book and put on viewgraphs from the book.

Five more weeks to endure her--yuck. The rating in ratemyprof.com, totally average, is too high in my opinion.
