Austin Community College (ACC)

U.S.A. Texas

Good morning allnurses.com viewers,

I just submitted my application to ACC for Spring 2009 and I am VERYYYY nervous. This program is so intimidating knowing it's past concerning waitlists and (though very doubtful) I wish to be accepted on the first attempt.

I am just wondering if anyone here in Austin has gone to the information sessions, talked to the chairman (woman), or has any information on what the waitlist is supposed to look like for Spring 2009.

Also, what ranking points is usually the cut-off for the waitlist? I have searched forums and some people have 45-50 ranking points (which is amazing and I congratulate you guys), but how many ranking points is it usually before they deny your admittance to the program?

Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Sincerely,

FilipinOOO

p.s. this is my first post so go easy on me:saint:

It does seem far away but you know it will be here in flash! I can apply for LVN in December and I could get accepted spring 2010 or fall 2010. It would be amazing to start in the spring but I am not getting my hopes up.

Any advice from people who have had micro and pharm already? Getting nervous here... haha

Good luck this semester everyone!!!

I had some people in my pharm class who had **********l for micro and they seemed to like it. Micro can be tough no matter who's teaching, but it definitely helps to have a prof who puts it all in perspective and doesn't skip the details. My BS is in micro/chemistry so if you need help or have a question feel free to send me a message. :nuke: Good luck and have fun, you'll really enjoy the labs!!

Thank you!

texascna06, I have a word of friendly advice for you. Please reconsider going to the LVN program. I know it seems to take forever to get through the pre-reqs but I am recommending this as a graduate of the LVN program at ACC (and it is a great program-they taught me so much). However, I wish I had taken the extra time to get to my RN. The pay is so much better as an RN. Nursing is a second career for me and I didn't know how much I would love nursing :nurse:. So again just my :twocents: You're young and you have time. The one year to become an LVN will slow down your career track if you decide to pursue your BSN or MSN. I am taking pre-reqs myself for the Mobility Track and I am only able to take one class at a time at this point since I work full-time. So I fully understand how it can seem to take forever. One thing I keep in mind, is that time will go by whether or not I take a class. So if one class is the best I can do, I'm at least moving forward by one class. I wish you the best.

I took Intro to Micro and Pharm together this past spring and I liked how what we were learning in both classes corresponded to each other. For instance, when we were learning about the actions of antibiotics on microbes in Micro, we were also learning about it at the same time in Pharm. Not sure if this was just a lucky coincidence or if they were planned that way. For me, Micro took alot more of my study time than Pharm did. Good luck!!

I'm in the process of finishing up my prerequisites for the ACC nursing program. I really want to become a CNA during this process, so I can gain some more knowledge. I was wondering if anyone could tell where a good place to apply for a CNA position is and what the average pay for one in Austin is. I need to also be realistic about my cost of living. Any information anyone can pass along would be so appreciated!!

I just started the ADN program this week and the classes you take in the Spring semester do not count in your Fall application. For example, this year the Fall 2009 application period was from the beginning of January to the beginning of March. I was taking Nursing Skills and Human Growth & Development during the spring semester. Because the classes were not complete by the end of the application period, they were not counted in my points. If you take a short class that is done by the end of the application period, that may count. Good luck!!

Hey guys how is the fall semester treating you so far? Had my first pharm test Thursday and I made a B. Not as good as I wanted but not too bad. Things have been so hectic around here I was not able to study as much as I wanted. Bodman is still a great teacher and I'm enjoying pharmacology a lot. I am getting the hang of the dosage calculations now and hopefully will be great with them after the workshop tomorrow.

* ********** is a GREAT teacher and very very nice. I know I've only been in his class two weeks but I highly recommend him. Micro is interesting but on the hard side for me. I am about to spend the whole weekend at the EVC library studying for my first test. I hope I am able to make an A.

mamajapko- I sincerely appreciate your kind words. I fully intend to go and get my RN, but like you said it is such a long wait for the RN program. It is not likely that they will still have a Spring '10 spot in the LVN program available in December when I am able to apply so I am planning to finish my last RN prereqs (anatomy and physiology) in 2010 and then after LVN school apply for the mobility track. It is also more helpful for me to get my LVN as soon as possible because I have to work during school and I need those LVN paychecks! Again, thank you I really appreciate it. :)

The Twitter post says that tomorrow 9/22, the ADN Dept may be done with the applications. Will we get an acceptance letter/email tomorrow?

Fall semester is uneventful so far. I am in my last pre-req, Physiology, and it is going pretty well. We had our first test last Tuesday and it was tough! It covered 7 chapters. I am also doing the CNA program through ACC every Saturday with clinicals to start soon. Even with my 10+ years experience as a unit tech at a hospital in San Antonio, I still wanna get an official certification. And my work paid for it also, so why not.

Who is your teacher radiation? I have heard good things about Prof. ****, but other than that have not heard much about physiology.

I got **** ***********. This is his first semester teaching Physiology in about 3 years. He has taught it for years though before. He is good. He usually teaches Anatomy only. He gives us a review before the tests and the homework and notes are really detailed. I also heard *** ****** is good.

Thanks! Has anyone received an email about the program yet? Good luck and congratulations to all. :)
