Austin Community College (ACC) ADN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi there! I know it's pretty early but I thought it would be nice to create a thread for all of us who will be applying for the Fall 2021 cohort, keep each other up to date on upcoming deadlines, and this whole process in general.

Hope y'all are keeping safe and staying sane during these wild times.

@kebrn unfortunately it is just score, the skills class though gave me 1 point which helped! I wish they would allow the fact some people have hospital experience into consideration because they inquire on the application if you works for seton or st David’s
(I work for seton so I was excited to put that but they don’t take it into consideration ?

Oh okay that’s good to know. Thanks! So with the skills class does that give you an extra class to multiply times your GPA? Or do you just add 1 extra point to your total score?

Hi y'all,

I'm just jumping on here because I'm assuming I didn't make it in the first round. I was a new applicant for Spring 2021 and I had a rank of 31 points. I'm guessing the cut-off is around 34 points (though not 100% confirm since they could possibly still send out a second round of acceptance letters at any point in time), but it's definitely getting extremely competitive. Especially, considering that 34 points is the maximum amount of points that new applicants can have.

I'm still feeling really disappointed and sad, but I'm sending out good thoughts and *virtual* hugs for those who didn't make it in that round either and those who are first time applicants!

Has anyone received a late acceptance letter? Possibly from a few people dropping out? I saw over in the Spring 2021 post that a few had gone out.

Is anyone here a re-applicant? Do y'all know if we just have to upload JUST the one page re-application form?

@hellohello third time applicant here! Just the one page re application form is all you need!

Thank you! ?

When is it that we should hear back from the school about our ability to sign up for the nursing skills class?

Also, for those who are re-applying and already took the class, any tips?

@sgsnursing— hey! My tip for you to pass that class is 100% do the skills lab as much as you can. Now with covid I don’t know what the policy is with going into the skills labs on campus but I was going multiple times a week.

if going onto campus isn’t a thing right now then grab a friend or classmate and practice on each other.

if you fail a skills check off don’t panic- it’s hard. I got an automatic fail because I forgot to free my wrists from my gloves  prior to taking off the rest of the PPE and she stoppeD me on the spot and failed me.

but- that honestly helped me because it’s important to properly take my PPE off and mentally prepared me for the next skills check off and I passed with a 100 on the last 3 (I think there were 4 all together) so practice practice practice!!

The exams were easy peasy- just study the notes given and for my skills class there was a medical terminology exam toward the end (it may have been extra credit) so maybe brush up on your medical terminology because they will not give you the terms prior.

Overall good luck and you got this!

I applied for Spring 2021 as a first timer and didn’t get in— but I’ve now finished nursing skills and all my co-requisites so I’m hopeful about this round!

Hey everyone! I'm planning to take Nursing Skills in the Summer. Does anyone know how long the Summer session is for skills? Also, are there any downsides to taking it in the Summer vs fall or Spring? Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience with the petitions for nursing skills class!? I’m so anxious!
