Austin Community College ADN Fall 2020
I have a question for y'all! I didn't get in for Spring but have reapplied for fall. My husband and I have been talking a lot about how we will manage being on 1 income for 2 years. He is super nervous about it. We talked about me doing the evening/ weekend LVN program instead so I could work through school. I really almost registered for the TEAS test (to get into the program) today but then I thought...no, I took all those pre-recs, I took nursing skills and ethics, and I want to see this through with the ADN program. My question is, is it at all possible to work while you're in the program? Even if I could work a part time job to pay for tuition that would help immensely. I just can't give up my goal of going through the ADN program after all the work I've put in.

Austin Community College (ACC) ADN Fall 2021
I applied for Spring 2021 as a first timer and didn’t get in— but I’ve now finished nursing skills and all my co-requisites so I’m hopeful about this round!

Hey friends! I just wanted some opinions. I just got offered a PCT job but its in a COVID unit. I didn't realize it would be the COVID unit when I applied. My husband and family aren't super comfortable with me taking the job...but I know how valuable it can be to have this experience before nursing school. What do you guys think?

I’m in RNSG 1105 now at RR. We don’t have open lab and we are only in the lab on Thursday’s for 2 hours because they had to split the class in 2 groups. The rest is via BB collaborate. It’s going to be a struggle for me, for sure. I’ve practiced some at home with my husband but still going to be difficult. The professors are really understanding though.

Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know that you will need to purchase scrubs, a stethoscope and manual sphygmomanometer and the textbook "Nursing Fundamentals" by Potter and Perry, 2020 edition, for RNSG 1105. I didn't know for sure how many things would need to be purchased until I read the syllabus on Blackboard on Friday. Just a heads up.

My husband and I actually talked about this last night. We both think that if I don't hear back from the RN program by mid August we should assume I didn't get in and I should apply for the LVN program, with the intent of going to RN through the mobility track. Thank you so much for helping us think of options! I have been a teacher for 8 years so all of a sudden not working for years on end seems very daunting for me, and I really want to begin working my way up in this new career. I do have a quesiton-- we are really hoping to have a baby within the next year or two. Our plan right now is to (try) time it so the baby is born over the Summer, so that I'd be in between semesters and have time home with the baby before going back. If the LVN program doesn't have a Summer break do you think having a baby during that year is even possible? We are in our mid 30s so we don't want to keep putting it off for years. I can't be the only woman trying to start a family during a career change..so I keep telling myself.

If you have any tips on how to get a PCT position let me know!! I have been trying for what seems like forever and can’t get an interview. It’s so frustrating because I know there are shortages and I’m ready to work. Seton especially- I probably apply there 2-3 times a week and always get turned down!!
