Austin Community College (ACC) ADN Fall 2021

Published

Hi there! I know it's pretty early but I thought it would be nice to create a thread for all of us who will be applying for the Fall 2021 cohort, keep each other up to date on upcoming deadlines, and this whole process in general.

Hope y'all are keeping safe and staying sane during these wild times.

Just as was posted before, our first check off was the physical assessment. It was done via video. The patient was on a type of isolation precaution. We needed to do our entry/exit measures, give vital signs (they could be stated) and then do the assessment. Be sure you know your entry/exit measures and how to put on and take off PPE.

Your first check-off where they teach you a skill is physical assessment. Your mastery  checkoff is before that and it's just stuff you learned in 1105.

No dumb questions.  Yes, you start classes first.  You will learn about Physical Assessments before you have to do the checkoff.

Hey guys. Those who already been in nursing can you please advice which campus to choose? Round Rock, East view or CEC? Everyone keeps telling me to stay away from Round Rock. I would really appreciate any feedback.

hi! Just throwing two cents in for when it come to decision making for myself I just chose which campus was closest to me. I also heard RRC was the hardest (which I did not understand what the difference was) however I chose RRC based off location. I’m headed into level 3 and I won’t lie- this first year was rough. But It took adjustment, organization, communication with professors and biggest thing that helped me go from barely passing to A/Bs was utilizing the tutor and reviewing exams.

I just say that because I don’t think it was the campus that was hard- nursing school is just hard. I really like RRC but I’ve heard wonderful things about the other cohort locations as well. So really in the end find what is convenient for you especially since it sounds like everything will be back on campus in person.

hope this helped and feel free to reach out with any other questions

@Deanna Bell thank you so much. My friend went to RRC and she says it was hard but doable. And it is true nursing school is just hard in general. I live closer to RRC so probably will put it. At this point I just want to get in wherever there is spot available.

@Kuza2022  I completely agree with @Deanna Bell. She and I had the same clinical location, Level 1, though we were opposite weeks/different groups.  It was rough indeed!  I wanted to quit - like, I was doing well but seriously came SO close to quitting!  @Deanna Bell and I were together/same group for Level 2.  It wasn’t perfect but it was much MUCH better than Level 1.  With classes returning to campus, I agree that it is best to choose the campus closest to you.  You will be busy enough and YES!…. Nursing school is just hard… period.  ACC is very skills-based.  Exams are the only thing that count towards your letter grade.  You have to be prepared to give it your all.  Never miss an opportunity to meet with Sally or another professor to review your exam. Honestly, I have come to the conclusion that surviving nursing school is what allows you to become a nurse and that you will learn most everything practical once on the job.  There have been many days that I got through by simply telling myself I wouldn’t let “them” win.  If that makes sense.  You can do this!  You absolutely can do this!

Do you think I can message you about level 2? Finished level one and wanted to ask a few things.
