Attention Recent Trinitas/UCC Upper Class(wo)men and Grads...need advise :)

Published

I recently got accepted to Trinitas for this fall semester (Hurray!!! :nurse:) and I need some advise. I need to know how hard is NURE 130 because the councelors have TOTALLY discouraged me and rocked my faith in myself. I have a full course load: CHE 113 w/lab, BIO 105 w/lab, and ENG 101. When I registed, one of the councelors said, that she would "BET" money on me failing (THAT IS A DIRECT QUOTE)!!!!! I went into registarion confident but came out scared to death. What exactly am I getting myself into?!?!?

Nur 130 is doable, it's the nur courses after this one is a killer. I transferred from this school because I felt the instructors were discouraging. For example, after an exam u should be allowed to view your exams to see mistakes you've made, so u won't make it again in the future. Unless things have changed this is not allowed at Trinitas.

Thanks Milan for the info!!! I hope that it was just the Prof. who was like that cuz I also need to see my tests after I take them to see what I got wrong. So what school are you attending?

I'm going into my Senior year at Bloomfield College this fall.

Hi, I just graduated from Trinitas in May. NURE 130 will be the easiest course you will take out of the whole program. Even though it is the easiest, a handful amount of people still fail it. If one doesn't pass NURE 130, i don't know how they would survive the entire program, since it's only introduction/history into nursing. As for viewing test scores, they have allowed viewing them recently about 2 semesters ago. When i started the nursing program, there must've been over/around 100-150 students who start NURE130. When i graduated there were only 44 of us, and that's including those who repeated some courses over the entire 2 yrs. I believe that has been the highest number of graduates from the school. BESIDES all that, Trinitas really teaches you well clinically and theoretically, and you'll feel confident in your transition into an RN. BUT take note, it is a hard program and you'll be having many sleepless nights. Also, you're allowed to repeat a course if you failed it, but after that you MUST pass every single course or you'll be kicked out of the program. Hope that sheds some light. BTW, finish your prereq's before entering NURE131.. I strongly recommend it!

CONGRATULATIONS :yeah:!!!!! It appeared that class was the largest that I've seen in cpmparison with the previous class pictures . So how's the job aspect? Do Trinitas hire you directly or do you have to apply to posting...as business as usual?

Thanks!!!! That really did help. That councelor just was SOOO negative about my course load! I feel that I am so far behind I was planning to still have a full course load next semester just to knock it out: Bio 106, Che 114, Psy 205 in conjunction with the following nursing program and the remainding of my classes I would take in summer/winter session. I think I do the best when my back is pushed against the wall (before :banghead: and after :p). I was reading the discription of the following NURE course BUT how much more difficult is it in comparison with NURE 130? I do have a medical background and I thought I would be able to use that for my advantage (MA, EKG, Phleb). Or am I just being "overconfident"?

I am interested in applying to Trinitas but, can someone answer this question for me please? If I transfer into the school and only need to take like two more classes, how hard would it be for me to be able to start Nursing 130 next semester? (and my gpa is good, completed all other pre-reqs) Would they give first priority to someone else who has done all or most of their classes at Trinitas over me? I am still trying to understand their point system and how it work in order to be eligible to start Nursing 130. Anyone with answers I would greatly appreciate your rsponse.

Yes, please finish as much of your prereq's as soon as possible before starting NURE131. But if you have to, take an easy course but don't take 2 courses along with NURE 131. BUT, make sure you do not take anything when starting Nure132 because the last three are the toughest courses. NURE 130 is basically studying the history and introduction into nursing, it's like a regular class. There's really no reason why anyone should fail that course. NURE 131 is where you will start your first clinicals and the study the fundamentals of nursing, and this is really the beginning of the weeding out process. By the time u finish NURE131, half your class will either have withdrawn due to poor grades, changed majors, failed clinically, or failed theoretically. The latter is usually. About half were gone when i finished NURE131. As for your counselor, she's just being realistic even though it may be discouraging. NURE 130 will be the easiest nursing course. NURE131 is tough, but your last three will be the toughest. Having a medical background doesn't necessarily help. Alot of people seem to fail theoretically. Overall Trinitas has a hard program. I graduated from high school ranked 9 out of 596 students with a 3.78 GPA and received straight A's in college until i started my nursing courses. Believe me, you won't be seeing A's for your final grade anymore once u start the program. You'll be happy with a C+, i know i was. Anything below 74.5 is considered failure. Trinitas Hospital actually takes priority over hiring their students. After graduation, they have a Bridge program for orientation and preceptorship. You would have to apply to Trinitas directly.

For Career12, if you've transferred all your credits to UCC there should be no problem getting into the program. As for your prereq's, theyre taken at UCC and not at Trinitas. Trinitas is actually a separate private school from UCC, but it's a cooperative program with UCC. I dont think Trinitas takes priority over those who took their prereq's at UCC, just as long as your transcripts show you've have taken a certain prereq(s) and a certain GPA. Many of the students are usually out of county or out of state(NY). As far as starting this Fall, it may be too late as most have already been invited to start the program for the Fall and have registered, but i'm not sure maybe you can speak directly to the Dean of Trinitas. Good Luck to both, you'll be needing it. :nuke:

RJMJ87: Thank you for that information. But isn't it UCC that makes the decision on who can start Nursing 130, which officially is the first nursing class? Or is that part up to Trinitas also? Is it that once you've finished your pre-reqs UCC then forwards your info to Trinitas and then they decide who starts when? Sorry...I just want to know what I am getting myself into as I will be attending as an out of state resident. Maybe I'm over analyzing things...

To Career12, there's actually a counselor at the Elizabeth campus of UCC that works directly with prospective and current Trinitas students. Usually you get an invitation letter to start the program. At least talking to the counselor, she can view your current status and have you in mind because many students are trying to get into the program, and you might get pushed back.

Thank You RJMJ87: Can you send me a private message letting me know her name so when I go I can ask to speak to her directly, because exactly what you told me is what I am afraid will happen. I hope you understand my concern. As a transfer student sometimes it looks easier somewhere else but then when you transfer you still get held back. So I need all the info I can get before I make that move. I really appreciate your help.
