  1. I don't know about CMSV doing that, but I do know that BMCC does that. You can request for them not to transfer a class or selected classes in, so that you can have the option to take the classes over so that it doesn't affect you GPA. It's mentioned in the nursing section for transfer students and when I called admissions they said a student of any major can request to have that done but only in the first semester when you transfer in. http://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/health/nursing/NUR.html#5
  2. I'm glad that it hasn't hindered your decision, because only you can decide what will work out best for you. And true some people do take offense to certain comments, I think that's because the previous posters felt as though certain comments were being made by people who have never attended GPC to have the "GPC experience" themselves. Yet they spoke and made their comments with such convictions as if they had experienced it themselves, when truth be told, it was just all through word of mouth in which they spoke and I think that annoyed a lot of people. How can you judge a book by it's cover? It's one thing to speak on experience but it's another to speak on hear say. Anywho....moving along I think you'll do great and there are tons of us here rooting for you. Good luck:anpom:
  3. Ok people, from time to time I frequent this forum, and though I currently live in NYC I did also apply to GPC (spring '09) as my husband is getting a transfer and we would have to relocate. Now I must say ALL, I repeat ALL schools have their issues, that is a fact. NO nursing program is a walk in the park, no matter what state you are in. Even the university that I currently attend has its negative reviews in terms of their nursing program, sometimes when people hear things they are shocked and say "....that school?" But you have to learn to tune people out and make it work for you. The way people speak about GPC should not hinder anyone's decision to go there. We all have different ways that we process information and what may not have worked out well for one person may end up being another persons ticket to success. Get with the program people, we do have freedom of speech but I thought that we were all here to encourage each other and be a support system for one another. By the way has anyone even checked their NCLEX pass rate for the year to date???? (from previous posts they seem to have a great track record of having a 100% pass rate). That my friends should speak for the school.
  4. Maybe you can look for a part-time job and that can help when you start your nursing courses. Plus you can always max out on student loans and budget yourself. Lots of students do it to get by while in college, no one wants to do it, but in the long run you will be able to repay it. Just a thought, anyway good luck
  5. It seems that you have thought this through thoroughly and that you have all the answers you need. I would say follow your heart and switch to nursing.
  6. I agree with what indymom4 said it is a guilt trip. While you love your mom she needs help. I also agree with: kalley, take the opportunity to live with your uncle, you need to hold on to your sanity.
  7. You need a change of environment ASAP. You need change in your life and you need it NOW. You will not be able to focus to achieve your goals if you are not in a stable environment and to start the (mental) healing process. I was in the same situation like you, in regards to the home life with my mother. Things only began to change when I left home and started making a life for myself. I am not telling you to run from your problems but I am telling you to take hold of YOUR LIFE. This has clearly contributed to your mental state of mind, (and not in a good way). Remember the saying you may have heard when you were a kid, "sticks and stones may break your bones but words won't hurt". Well reality check, they do. Pleas stop being so hard on yourself and start confessing good things in your life. Start speaking positive things and start taking baby steps by making one good decision at a time and stick to it. You have made mistakes in your past but we all have a past and I myself have messed up due to many problems in my life when I attempted college the first time around. My GPA suffered terribly but I decided that I wasn't a quitter and no matter how hard it gets or how far away it seems I am going to endure till the end, until I officially become an RN. You have to want it so bad that you can not leave room for failure. Sometimes you would be surprised at WHO is only waiting for you to fail at something only to poke fun at you and say I told you so, or you see I knew you could't do it. Sometimes the people we expect to be in our corner aren't, and that hurts the most. Just keep in mind that you are not the same person that you were when you first started school, you've been through a lot, so when you do start back school take a new aproach on things. Maybe you were able to handle a full course load the first time around but try to figure out what works best for you this time around. You can do it, just think positive. And remember if you are in a car going somewhere and your eyes is fixed on the rear view mirror, how can you go forward if you are looking back. Take your eyes of the rear view mirror and go forward till you reach your destination. We're all routing for you:anpom:
  8. Hi guys, I also had questions about this school and there nursing program. Take a look at the following thread and maybe you can post future questions on this thread to keep it . https://allnurses.com/forums/f162/attention-recent-trinitas-ucc-upper-class-wo-men-grads-need-advise-321240.html
  9. Thank you Bunny326 and RJMJ87. I think that I'll give it a shot and pray that it all works out. It's really encouraging Bunny326 to hear that your sister just transfered and already got in. RJMJ87 it's great having you here to give us the in's and out's of the program. I'll keep you guys posted on how everything goes. Thank you guys.
  10. Thank You RJMJ87: Can you send me a private message letting me know her name so when I go I can ask to speak to her directly, because exactly what you told me is what I am afraid will happen. I hope you understand my concern. As a transfer student sometimes it looks easier somewhere else but then when you transfer you still get held back. So I need all the info I can get before I make that move. I really appreciate your help.
  11. RJMJ87: Thank you for that information. But isn't it UCC that makes the decision on who can start Nursing 130, which officially is the first nursing class? Or is that part up to Trinitas also? Is it that once you've finished your pre-reqs UCC then forwards your info to Trinitas and then they decide who starts when? Sorry...I just want to know what I am getting myself into as I will be attending as an out of state resident. Maybe I'm over analyzing things...
  12. Definately Chemistry for me. I hate Chem....aghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
  13. Does any one have any idea if you will need to take any entrance exam such as NET/NLN or any such exam in order to start this new nursing program at York College?
  14. I am interested in applying to Trinitas but, can someone answer this question for me please? If I transfer into the school and only need to take like two more classes, how hard would it be for me to be able to start Nursing 130 next semester? (and my gpa is good, completed all other pre-reqs) Would they give first priority to someone else who has done all or most of their classes at Trinitas over me? I am still trying to understand their point system and how it work in order to be eligible to start Nursing 130. Anyone with answers I would greatly appreciate your rsponse.
  15. I co-sign on what PathToRN said, but hopefully you'll do great. Once again it's only our opinion.
