ASU Summer 2010 Program Applicants

Published

Hello, everyone!

I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time. :uhoh3:

I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. :( Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year :banghead:.

Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat

What scores are you all applying with?

Wow, thank you all for your responses. You've helped alleviate some of my worries! It almost sounds like we won't really be doing much, technically speaking. But I guess that's good, it helps to ease us into everything, especially the therapeutic communication which I have a feeling I won't be the best at until I get in some practice. :lol2: Practice, practice, practice! Do you think you're getting better at the communication aspect, tttt?

Tarabara, your first day experience sounds so sad! I would be heartbroken to start in an Alzheimer's unit; my grandmother passed away with Alzheimer's 10 years ago and I remember as a kid how complicated, heartbreaking, and sometimes even aggravating it was to be around her and interact with her. I'm glad to hear that it's gotten better though. :)

So since you're experienced in the LTC setting scperez11, does this mean I can come to you if I'm super scared of my pt and you'll help me?! LOL! jk jk That will be a great set of skills to have for this first semester! I'm totally jealous! :clown:

AHHH!! You were right behind us?!? You totally should have said hi! But yeah, there was me, and cna to my right and then another guy I knew from my HCR240 class to my left that I guess he's gotten on here, but I don't think he's posted anything. I met another guy thats been on here but hasn't posted anything and then the girl who asked about the book list issues I brought up on here, I talked to her for a bit afterwords too. Talked to lots of other people and everyone seems so nice, so I am totally looking forward to starting class with you all!

Were you wearing a blue shirt? Cna pointed out someone that he thought was you, but we didn't really know.

Wow, you met a lot of people! I saw a lot of people I recognized from Patho and some other classes, which was kind of exciting. haha, but YES! I was wearing a blue shirt! :) And my hair was in a pony-tail, if that helps at all. I was sitting next to KookyKris and she's a small/petite(I don't know how to say it nicely, don't hurt me!!) Filipino if that helps at all, either. :p

My name is Bethany, by the way. :) Sabrina is scperez11! :p I just didn't want us getting all confused with the names and whatnot. :uhoh3: I am SO excited to start classes! Less than a month now!!!

OH! And a little tidbit about parking. KookyKris and I went to go talk to Parking & Transit and the price for the NHI Garage for the summer is $195 (normally $780). For the Convention Center garage it will be $55 (normally $210), but you won't be able to park at the Convention Center garage during the summer, you have to park at the DPC lot 5 at 4th Ave. and Van Buren. However, you can't get the decals until May 1st because they're doing some renewal thing for people who already have the decals and their systems aren't letting anyone buy new decals until May 1st. We won't be able to buy decals for the Fall semester until sometime in July, though. Just as an FYI for anyone interested!

:heartbeat

Haha I think we were all pretty much sitting near each other. I know now that I was sitting next to airborne's group (black sweater and I was sitting next to a girl with really long blonde hair). I'm a little shy too haha. I'm so excited to start!

So were you the 2nd one in from the end? Because that blonde girl was on the very end right? If that was you, I actually almost sat next to you, between you and my friend so I could be more social. Haha oh well. Well I'm sure we will all meet again soon and since just about everyone knows who I am then come up and say hi! I don't bite I swear! ;)

Yep, that was me. Next time I will say hi haha and not be so shy.

I did say "BANANA!" loudly once! haha. It was during break, though, so I don't think it did much because I didn't like yell it at the top of my lungs... :clown:

I was so tempted to say banana during a random moment lol but was too chicken as well. I was also in a blue shirt that was sitting next to Bethany! Haha the small/petite Filipina with black hair. :D My name is Krisline by the way. :)

Does anyone know who asked about the book list? I think she is part of this online group :clown:...Ps. Thanks for asking the question because I can now finally buy my books and actually know which ones to buy. I am planning to buy the book bundle but still need all the other books that are not a part of the bundle.

Pineapple Crush: Don't be nervous about working with older people. Yes, they are more fragile than other populations, but they are the sweetest people! I've been an assisted living caregiver since 2008 and absolutely love it :)

Sabrina, I too, have worked as a caregiver in an assisted living care! :D My family actually owns one and it has really opened my eyes to the world of geriatrics and how rewarding/heartbreaking it can be sometimes.

airborneinf82 and cna to crna2b: I totally had a feeling you two were the ones in this group as soon as I sat down :lol2: and once airborneinf82 asked about the VA question, my hunch was confirmed hehe.

Ps. Check on your financial aid statuses if you haven't already. I was told back in January by an ASU financial aid rep that I had to submit a FAFSA for 2010-2011 in order to get funded for the summer program and since I did not get in to the spring program, I was told to decline the financial aid that I received for spring. So I did. Come to find out that the FAFSA that they need is the 2009-2010 and since I declined it earlier this year, I needed to have signed a paper for a mid-term transfer stating that I still need financial aid. This whole time I thought I was good to go, boy was I wrong . Thank goodness the secretary mentioned turning in the FAFSA 2009-2010 if anyone needed funding in the meeting. If not, I probably would have been waiting for my FAFSA to go through all this time and come the start of school, I would have no way of paying for the program. So needless to say, I have learned the hard way to verify, verify, verify! What a close call...I hate how the people at these offices sometimes don't know anything/tell you the wrong information...especially the transcripts department at ASU (PineappleCrush you know what I mean! :uhoh3:)

Yeah, I talked to her afterwords. I asked her where she heard that and of course she said on here. I don't know if she has posted anything or not, but she has at least been on here. The way they first started answering it, I was like "oh man I totally put all that information out here and it was wrong" but then at least there was some basis to what I was told, and hence wasn't a complete waste passing it along! :)

Don't worry airborne, we were all grateful for the info you were able to get us; even if you were misinformed about a few things. I'm super worried because I purchased all of my books already (mostly through Amazon) and now I'm stuck because I still have to purchase the online pdf file thingy (the last item on the list of required -- blue paper)... Anyone else have this problem? I went on the website yesterday and you can buy the access code and guide, but I'm not sure if it will work on BB... Idk, I gotta go down to student svcs tomorrow and figure it out.. :/

Definitely buy the code as soon as possible. If you dont buy the bundle than you have to buy the code from the Elsevier company, dont buy it on amazon or anything like that because it could be an old code that doesnt work anymore. For some reason my code that I bought directly from Elsevier did not work and I spent a lot of time talking to different support people trying to get it to work before finally just getting a new code, which sucked cuz then I was behind and couldn't do the first couple nursing skills online assignments. So I would definitely advise getting the code ASAP in case you have any trouble with it! (you shouldn't, most of the class didn't have any trouble at all, but better safe than sorry!)

Tarabara,

So what do you suggest? If you go to the website, there are two different options...

#1: Nursing Skills Online Version 2.0 for Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques (User Guide and Access Code), 7th Edition ($59.95)

#2: Nursing Skills Online Version 2.0 for Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques (User Guide, Access Code and Textbook Package), 7th Edition ($118)

I don't wanna buy the cheaper one and then later realize I needed the other one... I'm confused.. :(

-Sabrina

All you need is the code, so just go for the 60$ one

Thanks, I'm buying tomorrow :)

Yeah, no worries. I'm glad you shared your information and she asked because it didn't even seem like they were planning to give us the updated list or even tell us that there was an error on it (by the way they sent someone to get the list).
