Please give a shout out if you are a grammar or spelling cop!
My two biggest pet peeves on here:
(1) Definately
(2) HIPPA (I have been known to publicly reprimand the offenders!!)
There are others, but enough for now ... what are YOUR contributions? I know your out there (and YES I did that on purpose) ...
Just had to share .. now I feel like I am stalking LMAO! But I seem to spot these way too easily:

i think my forte' is more the sentence structure, grammer, and use of punctuation. some posts read like the person is out of breath. no capital letters at the start of sentence or sentences with no periods. there are also also those will cover half a page with a single paragraph yet never once start or officially stop the sentences. not to mention "you" is u and all the texting abbreviations.
This is how I feel about spelling and grammar on allnurses: It is not as important - it is secondary. The reason why I say this is: because the site is not designated for writing thesis in "early English literature" and have them evaluated for spelling and grammar errors, but it is for nursing staff seeking advice, a place to vent and support of people working in the nursing filed. Many of us here come from different backgrounds, with English being a second language and spelling and grammar are not a second nature to us. When you're excited or sad and you just type as fast as possible, you may spell the words incorrectly - it is not what I think about when I write a post on here. I come here to share my joy, ups and downs or simply to support another in the nursing field. Next time for all you "Grammar Police" hold back and don't go crazy - when you criticize the OP for such things it's quite embarrassing.
i posted something i had thought was funny. i'm married to a college professor who gets some papers that are real humdingers sometimes. one kid emailed him a paper last weekend that was entirely in text
speak (or whatever you call it) and when a relative who teaches esl students sent this tonight, it seemed
to fit in this thread.
those of us ancient enough to remember diagramming sentences in elementary school, had grammer pounded into us, and it's hard to let go. my first career was as an editor and i still edit every
word i read.
one friend kids that he married his wife because she had $25 in savings left after she had bought all her textbooks. my husband's running joke is that he no longer has to pay an editor when he finishes another book or article!

i'm sorry i totally disagree with this- whatever the reasons why someone has poor grammar, it does not excuse it. additionally, i feel like we would do a disservice to anyone who needs help with their grammar by not pointing it out- finally, as allnurses is readily accessible to the public, i feel that it portrays our profession in a poor light if several posts are unintelligible, full of spelling and grammatical errors.
