Please give a shout out if you are a grammar or spelling cop!

My two biggest pet peeves on here:

(1) Definately

(2) HIPPA (I have been known to publicly reprimand the offenders!!)

There are others, but enough for now ... what are YOUR contributions? I know your out there (and YES I did that on purpose) ... :D

those of us ancient enough to remember diagramming sentences in elementary school, had grammer pounded into us, and it's hard to let go. my first career was as an editor and i still edit every word i read.

it's always good to have a plan b! but... if you had said " i can still be one half of a successful comedy duo", the sentence would have been better, grammatically!!!

check this out:

now i think that i have seen it all! this was copied from a job description on a very well respected hospital's career website. i am only showing the part with the error, but every job posted with this description for nurses has the same mistake.

working conditions and physical requirements:

1. must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.

2. must be able to walk; climb stairs; lift, carry, push/pull greater than 50 pounds, repeatedly.

3. good balance is required to facilitate climbing and reaching for supplies.

4. must be able to bend, twist and crawl to facilitate cleaning equipment and must possess sufficient manual dexterity to handle ivs, specimens, equipment, and medications.

5. required to life and move patients

6. potiental for exposure to body fluids and communicable diseases exists.

7. required to work in an indoor climate controlled environment with occasional deviations in temperature related to location or specialty area. there may be occasions where exposure to external elements may be necessary (i.e. code grays, patient transport, etc.).

8. must be able to communicate in writing and verbally, both in person and by telephone.

i know you were just messin' with my mind and that's fine, but since the stroke physically disabled me and i can no longer be a psych nurse, silly things like this just serve to remind me that neither my mind

or my typing skills are as sharp as they were before.:crying2: oh well...

i'll bet if i make another spelling error, a typo, or similar goof, the grammar police will come and repossess my b.f.a. and m.f.a. degrees.:eek:

but it drives me absolutely bonkers when my husband (who has a doctorate-level education) continues

to pronounce the very very basic word toilet incorrectly. not toy-let but ter-let...:eek: :eek::eek::eek: aarruuuggghh!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek: oh no! i married archie bunker!!:D

does he also say "warsh" as my mid-western-born husband did? it took about 30 years, but i finally got him to say "wash".:D

yes!!!!!!:rolleyes: he also used light globes instead of light bulbs. he eats pecans when he snacks.

The pharmacy where I get my prescriptions has a sign at the start of the line that says something to the effect of stand back until you are called, and it says it is due to "HIPPA Regulations." On a printed sign. In a pharmacy. Every time I go I think about bringing them a new sign with it spelled correctly!
