Its kinda of scary reading a lot of the posts on here. It seems as if, so many nurses are not satisfied with their careers. So many people are so tired, aggrevated or stressed. This is so discouraging because, nursing has been a dream that I have felt for so long now. Im currently in my second semester and so far loving it, but is that all going to change once I graduate? Does everyone hate it, is any one happy??? PLEASE SHARE SOME POSITIVE STORIES IF THERE ARE ANY?????
What a shame to see talented people with excellent professional skills, compassion, and personal commitment, yet they don't like their jobs. I am so envious. I wish I had a job I could hate. I wish weren't a single, 41 years old, laid off, supporting a 13 year old on unemployment while I try to go back and get a second degree in nursing. I wish I hadn't spent the last 15 years in a career field that lays people off just because they can. (Telecom to be exact.)
I can't imagine having the ability to walk away from a career and still able to pick up exactly where I left off making BETTER money than before and still being able to help people the way a nurse does. You all are where some of us want to be. I want to be so tired I can't think. I want to feel like I am helping people in horrible health predicaments. I want to hate the paperwork but know it's necessary. I want to be able to get through all this classroom stuff just to get to the floor.
The sad part is, most of us may never get the chance-the odds are stacked against us when they only accept 30-40 in a nursing class.
Hey,
You are reading posts that are negative, you have seen that if a positive subject is posted, you get positive responses, This is a place that you can get any information you can think of, and a place where you can find sympathy, a place to releive stress, and a place to see that others often feel similar to you. Although I do not post often, I scan the posts most every day, I love my job, I am agency to avoid politics, You will love your job, but you can tell us your stories and we will let you know that you are not the only one.
YES !!!! I have only been a nurse since January. Where I work now appreciates it's employees .............. and thats half the battle, that is not to say that there are not days where I am very stressed and find patients that will stretch your patience, over all I am glad I choose nursing. while you are in school and doing your clinicals find out where you want to work. Finding the right hospital and specialty area to work is the other half of the battle. I work high risk OB and love it and my bosses !!
SOME DAYS WE LOVE IT....A LOT OF DAY WE REALLY HATE,....BUT IT's DOABLE is best response to everything about this job.

Hey dream8, I'm another "happy" bedside R/N back in Op Suite, as anaesthetic/recovery room nurse, and on part-time night duty! Had to go to the wards for 15yrs, as the hosp. admin. would not give me part-time shifts when I had my beautiful daughter 17yrs ago. Ended up in Cardiology on nights part-time. Always wanting to return to Op Suite. "Good things do come to those who wait" And it can get hectic at night...to me this is rewarding work.
I love my job.
I work in a drug rehab facility for teens, and it has really touched me and I have touched them. There was a time when I didn't want to work with kids, y'know, the emotional attachment thing can be too great. But for some reason, God has led me here.
I am proud and happy for them when they're discharged to go home or independant living; happy for them when they come to visit and are still clean and taking it one day at a time; disappointed when they relapse, but always, always encourage them to get back up on that horse and try again; excited for them when they talk about their plans for the future and what they really want out of life. Sure some days are worse than others and they turn into little manipulative brats, but so do some of my adult co-workers! Nursing is where I've always wanted to be and I can't imagine doing anything else.
For the first time in my career I can honestly say I LOVE MY JOB!!! After working in the hospital for many years, tired of the hospital politics, and becoming totally burned out, I took some time off. I didn't want to quit nursing but wanted a job that was satisfying and a job where I could make a difference in pt/family care. I have found that job with Hospice. Now instead of dreading going to work, I work more than scheduled and come home at the end of the day knowing I did my job well and that I have helped patients and their families in a very difficult time. But also, each and every patient or family member influences you in some way.

I'm sorry
there are so many nurses out there that don't like their jobs. I know there are alot of negatives about our jobs, but I think its imperative for us to concentrate on the positive.
I work with a bunch of great women in an outpatient setting. We have a good time:rotfl: at work and we all work as a team when things get a little hairy like they sometimes can. I also work part time which makes it easier for me to pursuit other interests in my life which I think is very important.
It might be a good idea to try changing the things you don't like or pursuiting nursing in another area. There are plenty of avenues of nursing out there.
Hang in there and good luck to you.
