Organ, tissue, marrow and blood donor :)

cheers,

I'm curious about the rationales of the two people so far who have indicated they are not donors ...

I would 100% be up to donating any organs that would help save a life! But unfortunately I'm not allowed to donate organs or blood due to the fact that I'm openly gay, and the state of California doesn't allow people who have had sex with someone of the same gender and/or anal sex within the past 10 years to donate organs or blood.

(Sad, but true)

I am an organ donor. I can understand money coming in to play for some people as a reason not to do it. Health care is big business, but I try think of how I would feel if someone didn't donate when they could have saved my life or a member of my family, just because they didn't want to line the hospitals pocket. I personally couldn't put a price on life. People dying because they couldn't find a donor doesn't hurt the hospital but it does hurt the family of the person who passes on.

People are entitled to do what they wish with own bodies and I pass no judgment, this is just my :twocents: :)

I am a donor. My mom donated a kidney to her sister and it has saved her life for over ten years now.

I recently donated blood and I asked others in my class if they had ever donated. One girl told me no and that she never would because they don't pay her anything to take her blood but yet they make money off it. I thought that was such a sad and backwards way of thinking of things.

I often wonder what she would think if someone she loved needed blood and it wasn't available because someone was as crass in their way of thinking as she is. :*(

Good to know! My husband does not agree with being an organ donor and I was always wondering if he would be given the option to over ride my choice...

the idea of someone cuting off my skin or my eyes is to much for me .

I'm sorry you feel this way.

Would it help you to know that you are really not going to care about what happens to your body after you die? It's like leaving behind your favorite jumper from the 5th grade after you've outgrown it---it no longer fits your grown-up form, and will never again be of any use to you whatsoever. But while the fabric may be a bit faded and a couple of buttons are loose, the garment is still whole and has a lot of wear left in it......thus it is mended so it can be given to someone whose own is worn out, or who doesn't have one at all.

That's organ donation.....or if you prefer, an anatomical gift. :redbeathe Please reconsider your reconsideration of becoming a donor. I'm so sorry about your beloved mother---the hospital staff who deal with donations should have been more sensitive to your needs, and explained why they had to do what they did so quickly.

Yes, I am an organ donor. Especially if I kick off while I'm still young, I want to leave something valuable behind. Lol.

Yes, I'm an organ donor. It's nice knowing that when I die, I'll still help people.

Absolutely am...have a good friend who will celebrate her 5th birthday next week with her new heart-she is 40 years old and would not have lived to see 35 without the heart.

I have a hard time understanding why everyone would not want to donate...I mean what are you going to do with them, really???
