Are online associate programs worth it?

I am enlisting into the national guard and the unit I most likely will be in is vein deployed. With this happening, I would like to take classes online to earn my associate's degree. Would it be beneficial at all? Also what are some military friendly schools? I want to get my associates so I can get a job in a nursing home to gain some experience. Then once I get my bachelor's I will have some time under my belt

What kind of Associates Degree are you looking to do online? Nursing? If so, its impossible to do a nursing degree completely online.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Unless you are an experienced paramedic or LPN and certain military corpsman, you cannot complete an entirely online entry to practice associates in nursing degree. Excelsior College is military friendly however the entrance requirements for the online ASN degree are actively licensed LPN, actively certified MICP/EMT-P/paramedic or specific military medic roles.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

All nursing programs have a clinical component.Nursing involves hands on skills that can't be learned online. You need the required number if clinical hours to get a nursing license.

I think if your in the military you can study on your own and take CLEP exams for college credit on your General Ed materials like English, Math, History and such. I think its a much cheaper option than those online associates degrees. That way when you get back stateside you can "test-out" of those classes and concentrate on your major program of study. I don't really have anyone close to me in the military but I live in a military town and I know there are quite a few options to get your education.
