How much time per question does your nursing school allow on tests?
I was always under the impression that nursing's final test "the NCLEX" allowed one minute per question. However if you do the math there is more than one minute per question allowed on the NCLEX.
Now I am curious where the idea of one minute per question came from?
Do most nursing schools time student's tests?
And is one minute per question the standard for the timing of the tests?
Our test have ranged from 70-100 questions but we get 2 hours on every exam. On the very first exam one student went over the 2 hour "limit" she was griped at when she was done but they did let her finish the test. I haven't heard of the "one minute per question" thing. Thanks for posting.
My community college's nursing department has a formula, with a certain number of seconds-per-question depending on the question's categorization: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, and Analysis. Knowledge questions (regurgitation of facts) get the least amount of time, I want to say 45 seconds, and the more complicated types get something like 60, 75, and 90 seconds each.
They actually give us a blueprint ahead of time telling us how many Knowledge, Comprehension, etc., questions there will be. They told us the formula at the beginning of the program, but I never bothered to memorize it, so I'm just estimating here. I typically finish in about 1/4-1/3 of the time offered, so I get a nice long dinner break on exam days.

Our tests are 50 questions & we are given 1 hour to complete. The final is 100 questions, and we have 2 hours to complete it. We take our tests on the computer, and so there is a timer in the corner..so it sorta puts pressure on me lol. And our tests are set up "NCLEX-style" so once you hit the next button...there's NO going back to change a question/review it/etc
