If so, have you gotten grief from coworkers or patients because of it? Tell your stories here!!I'm pagan, and I'm pretty low key about it. I have nothing against Jesus. If he existed, I think he must have been a pretty cool dude. But, I don't consider myself a Christian per se. I've worn jewelry that represents my faith and gotten raised eyebrows and a few comments here and there, but nothing I can't handle. Patients have been pretty ok with it but maybe that's the pre-op drugs doing their job, lol.
Sort of.
I am a Christian. However I am very open to alternative therapies. I use yoga and meditation on my unit's break room. The other nurses look at me funny after I perform reiki on a patient or when I spend a moment to channel my chi to get that IV in just right. This stuff isn't just gobbledy-gook, however I do not apply religious context to chi manipulation. It is simply a part of the world that has not been proven and accepted scientifically yet.
I also don't think of alternative (or, perhaps more accurately, complementary) treatments as having a religious bent. Because the original practitioners or 'inventors' of these routines didn't practice the same religion as I do doesn't make the practice itself inherently religious in my mind.
I believe there is validity in some offbeat things; I also have found some offbeat things don't work. Much like there are many medications designed to treat the same set of symptoms simply because no one medication is the End All, Be All for every human on the planet. Sometimes, it's a Chinese Menu approach that's best: you know, a little of this, a little of that :)
