Preparing for the future (after NCLEX)
Hello. My clinical leader just called me to congratulate me on passing my NCLEX and receiving my license (she was able to look this up in my state's BON database thing before I could pay for my unofficial results :) ). I am now no longer a graduate nurse and am working full-time on a medical-surgical floor as a registered nurse (as of tomorrow! eeeee!). Now that I am BSN-RN, what do I do? How do I prepare for the future? Any recommendations for things such as license insurance/protection or professional associations to join? I am currently living and employed in the state of Tennessee. Thanks, Ales

Mantra?... Whats yours??...
I usually take about 30 seconds to pause, exhale while saying "oooohhhhhmmmmm", focus on a positive aspect from God (kindness, love, peace, patience, mercy, etc.), then go about my merry little way.

GOD in NURSE is the Difference!
God put me in this career. The skills I learned, the intuition I constantly acquire, the compassion I was born with... those are what makes what I hope will eventually become a great nurse. For now, just a nurse. :)

Are you a nurse with "alternative" spiritual beliefs?
Sort of. I am a Christian. However I am very open to alternative therapies. I use yoga and meditation on my unit's break room. The other nurses look at me funny after I perform reiki on a patient or when I spend a moment to channel my chi to get that IV in just right. This stuff isn't just gobbledy-gook, however I do not apply religious context to chi manipulation. It is simply a part of the world that has not been proven and accepted scientifically yet.

Are men not as neat as women nurses?
One time, a patient's family member (who I think was probably severely OCD in the first place) was quite intent on redoing my entire bed change because of a couple of wrinkles in the top sheet. She then told me "Don't worry, I understand, it's a man thing. Only women know how to make beds." I wonder what her reaction would've been if I told her I was transgender.
