Hey all,
I was just curious to see if any nursing students/nurses are interested in becoming nursing professors? I always wanted to be a teacher, but than I fell in love with nursing. So, combining the two would be perfect. Also, would you teach at the school you attended, why/why not? Just curious. Thanks in advance!!!!

I would love to teach someday. I plan on working for a while (like 20 years), while going back to school to get my advanced degrees. Then when I am unable to work the floor for whatever reason (mental or physical exhaustion) I would love to teach at a university. I wouldn't teach here at my community college because we are military and won't be living here much longer. It is definitely a long-term goal, though!

I've tossed around this idea a few times. I know I'll be going to grad school at some point (I'm in a BSN program now), and I think either teaching or FNP (or both!) would be a good fit for me. I would gladly teach at my college if given the opportunity.

I'm told by my classmates that I'd make a great teacher. It's probably something I'd consider doing many years down the road. I'm not interested in teaching right away--I'd rather be in the trenches for a while first.

I would love to be a nursing professor, but only if I could teach the hard-science or technical stuff like pharm, patho, etc. It turns out that nursing school is so focused on writing papers that I probably couldn't do it... maybe in a CNS or NP program.

I've often thought about teaching in the clinical portion of a program, because it's hands on, and you are working with a small group of students whom you will get to know quite well. But the idea of teaching a lecture type class holds no appeal to me.

I think I'm a future instructor. Only for theory though. I love to teach others and I love helping out other nursing students who may not get something. It my passion even if I'm just teaching a CNA course or PCT.

I'd love to teach someday down the road. It's somewhere there in my 20 year plan. :)

Yes, I think I would eventually. Like the OP, I was originally considering teaching, but I fell in love with nursing. I would prefer to get several years experience though before I get an advanced degree. I wouldn't want to teach at my school simply because I don't want to stay in the area.

Yes, this is in my post-Masters life plan. Though I think I'd like to be a clinical instructor in about 5 years or so.

I am an older student so, although I have every intention of working in a hospital as long as I can, I plan on getting my Master's so I can teach when floor nursing gets too hard. I will probably work a few years before I start pursuing my next degree, I would like some time to enjoy being a nurse before I have to fit school around everything else or vice versa, lol!
