Hello, I am applying to Duke's ABSN program for the fall of 2016 and am wanting to chat with anyone else who is in the same boat! I'm wondering how hard it will be to get in based on GPA, prereqs etc.
Are there any current Duke students who would be wiling to share what their profile looked like before they got in? If they were wait-listed and got in?
Any information would help!
Hello everyone, I want to say congrats to everyone that was accepted to duson for the fall 2016 cohort. While I am excited for y'all, I wish I was excited for myself, unfortunately I did not get in. I am a bit confused as to why I wasn't accepted because I felt I had strong recommendations & a strong personal statement, but maybe that was not enough. Not to mention I work for Duke Universiy hospital in Durham as a CNA & I thought being already affiliate that would increase my chances. Well, it didn't, bummer. This was the only absn program I applied to & now I'm like I'm thinking about the possibility of reapplying for spring 2017, but at the same time I don't want to go through the whole process & get denied admissions, again. That would hurt. That would hurt bad. So I was wondering, for those that got admitted, would y'all be willing to take a look at my personal statement & see where I messed up & be willing to offer any tips & advice as to how I can reconstruct my personal statement so if I do reapply I will have a better chance at getting in?

I'm sorry, Pmilian :/ Did they specifically tell you that your personal statement was the reason for rejection? If not, I strongly recommend asking admissions if they can give you some specific feedback so that you can focus your efforts appropriately.
And when you say "personal statement," do you mean the 4 essay questions or did you send in an actual personal statement? I made the mistake of writing a personal statement according to the MSN/DNP instructions. Spent many hours on it before noticing the print that said it was for all programs except ABSN. Admissions told me not to submit it. If you did the same and submitted a 1-2 page personal statement, that may have counted against you.
I'd be willing to take a look at yours and give you some feedback. But again, I would ask admissions what the scoop is so that you're not taking shots in the dark.
And if nursing is what you really want to do, don't give up. The disappointment of being rejected on the first try would be much less than the disappointment of looking back 10+ years from now, while working a job that doesn't fulfill you, and wondering where you could be if only you had tried again. My mom was an RN that always wanted to go to back to school to be a PA. Never really had the confidence to try and she still voices that regret.
Maybe consider applying to a wider range of programs next time. Maybe even some traditional programs? Figure out what your applicant strengths are and look for programs that seek them. E.g. grades, clinical experience, volunteer work. They are weighted differently for different programs. If you happen to be a single, childless individual and are willing to move for education, that really will broaden your options, too.
I was unfortunately denied, which really surprised me. But I guess that means I'll be going to Emory or Miami or even switch to PA, who knows! I'm so excited and happy for those of you who got in; you're going to love it! Best of luck!
@vitaga12 i'm in the same boat as you and would be curious to hear your thoughts on the two programs (don't have enough points to DM here but email is [email protected]). Send me a message!

I'm currently graduating from wake forest, and I took micro over the summer here this past year. It was really good and thorough, but it was also pretty easy. I'm not sure if you're able to get to Winston, but I'd definitely recommend wake's micro class.
