Applying for Duke ABSN fall 2016

Published

Hello, I am applying to Duke's ABSN program for the fall of 2016 and am wanting to chat with anyone else who is in the same boat! I'm wondering how hard it will be to get in based on GPA, prereqs etc.

Are there any current Duke students who would be wiling to share what their profile looked like before they got in? If they were wait-listed and got in?

Any information would help!

Thanks everyone for tracking down when we will find out about Duke, has anyone served in the Peace Corps or Americorps? I was reading on UVa's board and an adviser wrote that those are some of the experiences that they weigh when determining qualified applicants. Just wondering if there were any RPCV out there with me?

and I just got the email from Nora stating that we will definitely know by the 18th...so close...so far away!

Good Luck everyone!

Where else did you get in?

PM'd!

Well, it's UF and I live in NC, so it's a pretty big move. I work full-time and can't really take time off to visit. I'll need to find a place to live, gather school materials, and what not. I also have to figure out how exactly to pay for it. I submitted my FAFSA, but I'm sure I'll need to take out more loans since I'm out-of-state. I also have a certified background check to do (finger prints, drug test, vaccinations, PE, etc.), but it's not due til late May.

What's weird is that they haven't released the orientation schedule or asked for a deposit. I believe classes start the first week of May. From the few interactions I've had with the university as a whole, it seems like things are a little discombobulated.

I haven't told admissions about my situation yet. I've been a bit afraid to. I'm hoping I'll hear back from Duke and MUSC before UF asks for monies. What you've said eases my anxiety though.

And thanks for the congratulations :) I am very grateful to have gotten into a program. Regardless, I'll be on my way to a BSN.

Are you currently at Duke or did you apply for this fall, too? If so, did you apply anywhere else?

I also applied and got accepted to UF! (And currently live in SC) MUSC'a campus is absolutely beautiful, just a super expensive school. Among my other acceptances, my number 1 school that I got into was Emory, but I'm still curious about my admissions decision from Duke as well.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner! I second everything otay5 said, and you'll have to look into funding options regardless of where you go, so I'd get that ball rolling now anyway. And it never hurts to speak with admissions offices - they're trying to get you to apply and go to their university, so they typically do all they can to help accepted applicants (granted, I can only speak to my own experiences).

I applied for Fall 2016 with all of you! I'm making a career change from politics/law - I got my BA from UNC-Chapel Hill and my MA in England five years ago. I'm from NC (Raleigh, specifically), so I want to stay in-state, too. I've moved countries recently, so the idea of moving states at the moment isn't really feasible or attractive! If I don't get into Duke, I'm planning to reapply for Spring 2017, apply to UNC, and possibly Watts.

I'm sure it's a relief to know you'll get your BSN somehow! Good luck with your application, and let us know how things go! :)

Just got accepted to Duke!!! Anyone else?

I just got my acceptance! Anyone else? So excited!

Hey, did you get in. I have been offered a conditional admission

Hey, did you get in. I have been offered a conditional admission

Conditional admission is still an admission as long as you have a satisfactory performance in your last prereqs & GPA, etc

Hey, did you get in. I have been offered a conditional admission

Mine's conditional upon satisfactory completion of Microbiology, but it's still an acceptance. Is your letter different?

Btw, I'm definitely going, so I can't wait to meet all of you soon!
