Hello, I am applying to Duke's ABSN program for the fall of 2016 and am wanting to chat with anyone else who is in the same boat! I'm wondering how hard it will be to get in based on GPA, prereqs etc.
Are there any current Duke students who would be wiling to share what their profile looked like before they got in? If they were wait-listed and got in?
Any information would help!
Hello everyone,
This is my very first post here. I have been following most of the postings on this tread and just curious as to what the talk is all about with the Spring 2016 Info session. Am one of the applicants for the Fall 2016 ABSN and up till now, did not receive any such email! Should I have any reason to worry or have I been taking off the applicant pool list? Last I heard was my application going for faculty review. Even though I don't have high hopes anymore going by past experience, I really would love to end up at Duke University. Please, could anyone knowledgeable about this, tell me what it is with the info session email and its implication(s)?
Hey everyone!
I spoke with someone at the admissions office yesterday, because I wanted to know about the info session date/time in case I'm waitlisted. Essentially, we're all just reading into receiving/not receiving the email because we're all understandably anxious - it was sent by Tia Troy, who doesn't deal with ABSN admissions, and it was sent to those who expressed an interest in Spring 2017. So, I imagine for those who received it, they were on that email list for whatever reason (they were waitlisted in the past for Spring, for example).
Our applications are currently with faculty, so the admissions staff doesn't know what the final decisions are. When I asked if we'll have a decision by the time of the info session (March 21st), I was told we absolutely would - right now, it's looking as though we'll know by Friday, the 18th (she told me the week of the 18th, too, so it will be during the week of the 14th, but it will most likely be towards the end of that week). It is frustrating, because we were told "early March", but apparently they had a lot of applications this year, so there's a delay of a week or two.
Suffice to say, we'll know very soon!! :)
Goodness. I guess I'll stop compulsively checking my email for the next few weeks.
Did anyone else get into another program? I got into my 3rd choice but those classes start in May. I'm not sure if I should start planning as if I'm going to that school just in case, or if I should hold out for a few more weeks. Still haven't heard back from the 2 fall programs I applied to. Anyone have advice?

What does "planning" entail, exactly? If it's just sending deposit money, and you can afford possibly to lose it, then I would go ahead - having a fall back plan is always wise, in my opinion. And the 18th is only two weeks from now.
Have you spoken to the program about your situation directly? Admissions offices are usually pretty understanding of this kind of situation.
Congrats on getting accepted, btw! :)
Thank you very much adairfletch for sharing your conversation with admissions. I knew there has to be a reason why only a handful of people got that email. I pray everyone had good news when the decisions are posted. Good luck everyone.

Well, it's UF and I live in NC, so it's a pretty big move. I work full-time and can't really take time off to visit. I'll need to find a place to live, gather school materials, and what not. I also have to figure out how exactly to pay for it. I submitted my FAFSA, but I'm sure I'll need to take out more loans since I'm out-of-state. I also have a certified background check to do (finger prints, drug test, vaccinations, PE, etc.), but it's not due til late May.
What's weird is that they haven't released the orientation schedule or asked for a deposit. I believe classes start the first week of May. From the few interactions I've had with the university as a whole, it seems like things are a little discombobulated.
I haven't told admissions about my situation yet. I've been a bit afraid to. I'm hoping I'll hear back from Duke and MUSC before UF asks for monies. What you've said eases my anxiety though.
And thanks for the congratulations :) I am very grateful to have gotten into a program. Regardless, I'll be on my way to a BSN.
Are you currently at Duke or did you apply for this fall, too? If so, did you apply anywhere else?

Hi Purplepixie! I know how you feel! I'm sort of in a bind as well. I was hoping to hear from all the schools I applied to by now so that I could get a good idea of my options and financial aid packages before submitting a deposit and picking a school. I don't really have a "top choice" since all the schools I applied to are way way out of my area and am planning to make a decision based on the financial aid packages I am offered. Duke is the last school I am waiting to hear from and my deposits are due before March 18. GRRR!
Worst comes to worst, I will submit a deposit for the school that works best for me financially and be out $200 ... I mean, there isn't much else to do if I want to secure a seat.
In your case, it doesn't seem like a lot of planning needs to be done NOW versus in a week or two, so relax until you hear from duke! Like, I get that you might be anxious but don't jump the gun, because if you get in to Duke, then you will have wasted all that time planning (assuming you pick Duke over UF). Maybe you can browse apartment listings near UF to get a good idea of housing costs but don't put down a deposit, you know?
Anyways, congrats on UF! Hopefully you hear back from Duke before any money is asked of you! PM me if you wanna chat more!

Solid suggestion. That's the course of action I was leaning towards. Thank you for your response.
Where else did you get in? Congrats to you, too!

When I talked to Nora, she said she would post decisions as soon as she could, but it is out of her hands and with faculty right now. It sounded like she will post let us know as soon as she does. I think she might be just as anxious.
