Applicants to Portland area schools

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Greetings fellow future nurses! I just mailed my application packets for Mt. Hood CC, Clackamas CC, and Portland CC today and excited to be done with them. I have my proctored essay for OHSU this Wednesday and am a little worried because I have NO idea what is going to be asked. I haven't been able to get any feedback on what is on any of the essays. I am also applying to Chemeketa but am probable wasting my time as I am missing 2 of the pre-recs required there that aren't required at the OCNE schools. Well, the worst they can say is no, right?

Anyway, the Oregon Nursing Programs sections has been a little dead lately so I was hoping to spark some dialogue. This is my first year applying and I'm already getting a little stressed. I kind of have a lot riding on getting in somewhere next fall. My fiance and I are kind of planning on it. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire! How's it going with everyone?

For anyone interested in a bit of one student's opinion (she is a 2nd yr student at PCC) about PCC's program, check out page 5, post by Stellar.Stella. I was a little nervous when I read it because I really thought PCC would be a top choice for me. I have also applied to Mt Hood, Clackamas, & OHSU. Still not sure what to do with her thoughts and experiences, but it is good to at least hear from another student that's in the program.

I've heard this from more than the one current student, too.

Yeah PCC's attrition rate is a little concerning. The main thing I'm looking for in a program is the quality of their clinicals, so hopefully I can find out in the orientations if I do get into more than one.

HEY! portland medic and osuchris, I was in that Friday morning PCC group too! I was the one who's monitor fell off when I tried to adjust it! I was wearing a white shirt & khakis. Where were you guys?

I was the guy with gray hair in the row in front of you sitting next to the wall.

Fun essays, eh?

does anyone know which day is the last day of MHCC interviews?

Friday was the last day for MHCC interviews. People will be notified by this Friday (May 4) via email. I'm so nervous!

Sushi, I was I think two or three seats to the right of you. Probably the most casually dressed in the room in my shorts and long-sleeved tee. We must all have been clustered in the same corner. :)

WaitWaitWaitWaitWait... all wait and no play makes Jack a dull boy...

Yes, wait wait wait!

Mt Hood notices in two days! PCC a week from that (next Friday),then CCC interview the 18th, with results June 1st...ugh! I will be happy to get in the top 10-15 wait list for Mt.Hood, if I don't get an actual acceptance! CCC is my first choice though. I wish we didn't have to wait soooo long for that one! Ugh!

So nervous!

Congrats to everyone who has been lucky enough to get an interview this year. You all must be waiting on the edge of your seats... from the day the app went in until the day acceptance letters arrive. I know competition is heavy and it takes a lot of hard work, so good luck to you all!!

The vagueness of MHCC letting us know we'll hear back "by" friday is driving me bonkers! I mean, it is quite vague, and could mean today or tomorrow as well. I confess I've been checking my email very frequently. If only they'd have said "on" Friday, I might feel a bit more sane. Dizzy with anticipation! I'd be happy with anything in the 20s and under. I was an alternate last year in the 30s (forfeited position to work a year, would've been accepted), and it was quite a wait to hear from them. I'm hoping applying with 5 more points will boost me up on the list a bit. There is just too much to think over since the interview. UGH! INDEED waiting waiting waiting!

On a side note, I'm curious what the previous years of PCC and CCC were like in regards to their waitlists? Do they move through them all too?
