Applicants to Portland area schools

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Greetings fellow future nurses! I just mailed my application packets for Mt. Hood CC, Clackamas CC, and Portland CC today and excited to be done with them. I have my proctored essay for OHSU this Wednesday and am a little worried because I have NO idea what is going to be asked. I haven't been able to get any feedback on what is on any of the essays. I am also applying to Chemeketa but am probable wasting my time as I am missing 2 of the pre-recs required there that aren't required at the OCNE schools. Well, the worst they can say is no, right?

Anyway, the Oregon Nursing Programs sections has been a little dead lately so I was hoping to spark some dialogue. This is my first year applying and I'm already getting a little stressed. I kind of have a lot riding on getting in somewhere next fall. My fiance and I are kind of planning on it. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire! How's it going with everyone?

YAY! just got my CCC invitation and I signed up for May 24th! Now I have to see if I can get the time off from work!

Lilpoka,

I did my MHCC essay/interview last Tuesday, not Thursday. But good luck with CCC!

Yes you will Miss...that is the time I chose too- the 18th at 10:30! Very nice.

Good luck to you too Sushi! It's exciting to finally be getting to this point. It sounds like we have all worked SO hard to get there. It's nice that it's finally here!!! Congrats to all of us.

FINALLY got the CCC letter today as well. My interview is Thursday May 24th at 12:15. A whole month from now. Weird that clackamas waits so long to do interviews.

What I find strange is that I will have a response back from Mt Hood & PCC before I even go for my interview with CCC on the 18th of May. But that's ok. At least I'm in the system at this point. Ya Hoo for that!

The turnaround from interviews to decision letters is pretty quick for ccc.

On clothing, last year their were two people in my interview who were jeans, but one was a previous medic for the army, and the other was a peace corp volunteer. They both got in. Dress nicely and cleanly, be comfortable, and your qualifications will get you in, not your dress.

Just got back from the PCC essay. Was pretty straightforward. No curve balls or weird questions. I remembered how much I like the PCC Sylvania campus. They said 250 people were invited to the essay, 190 people accepted the invitation, that 75-90 people would be accepted, with 75-90 alternates. Kind of a lot of people. That concerns me a little bit. Does anyone know how good the clinical opportunities are at PCC?

I was in that group too, probably saw you there.

I was at PCC today too. I wish I had 5 more minutes to tighten things up a bit - but oh well. I was surprised by the number of alternates as well. I don't know if that means they have had too few alternates in the past. I guess now I can say I have done everything I can do and my nursing future is totally out of my hands. Hurry up Mid-May!!! :)

Yeah I know. I have to say I was pleased by the number of men in the room. (I wasn't one of them. :) It's good to get gender diversity into the field. I could have used an extra three minutes, but oh, well.

Pcc's current 1st year class is down about 30 people from what they started with. They have a reputation of weeding people out. Do with that info what you want.
