Applicants to Chico for Fall 2014??

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone!

I'm just putting my feelers out to find others applying to the BSN program at Chico State for the Fall of 2014. The deadline to apply is in a week, so I'm getting excited and antsy!! I am from Arcata (Humboldt County) and live here currently, but I am excited to be hopefully moving to Chico in the fall!!

I am in the program now as well if anyone has questions. I am finishing up so I don't remember the schedules exactly but I know it was a two day schedule for lecture almost all if not all through the program. Clinical schedule can be crazy. I had to do weekend shifts for maternity and I even had to do night shift one semester. I would recommend doing your clinicals at Feather River or Oroville hospital. They may be farther but you will get the best experiences there! They don't have as many regulations as Enloe and Mercy and the people are just so much nicer and more helpful in general. I found the workload very tolerable until about the last year. You could definitely work through at least the first three semesters. It's not that bad and MOST of the teachers are very helpful and respectful of your time. When you get the opportunity, DEFINITELY to the RCNP program, you will not regret it![/quote']

Thank you soooooo much for sharing this info! I am sure I will be picking your brain when things come up. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer questions and give a little overview.

I'm currently in first semester and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm definitely busy, but I have a life outside of school.

Clinical is Monday 7-345, but you go in on Sundays as well to prep for Monday and it only takes a couple of hours. You also only go in Monday if you have clinical the next day, not for rotations. Class is tues-thurs, but they are adjusting classes next semester so it could change.

Hospitals this semester are enloe and life house in paradise. I heard it's changing next semester though.

Let me know if you have other questions!

Oh, and it's pretty expensive. About $4000 in tuition plus $1000 or so for books and supplies. Plus if you want a parking permit or anything else.

Hey everyone. I also applied to CSU Chico's program for Fall 2014. I have been hesitant to post because I am pretty sure I will not be admitted based on the last two semester's point cut offs. If not I will try again next semester since I will have a higher GPA and will retake the TEAS. I'm holding out hope for an alternate position.

I was wondering if anyone received any confirmation from Chico that they received their nursing application. Good luck to everyone!

Hi TaraDe, welcome to the thread. You never know, fingers crossed that this year is your time. If not, I am sure next semester you will be golden with your higher GPA and TEAS score. I didn't receive one from Chico. I received an email from NursingCAS that my application had Bren verified. Good luck to you as well!

No, Chico never sent me anything saying they got my application. I think the important thing is just the NursingCas verification, and to make sure Chico has your transcripts and everything.

Hi! I am a transfer student that applied to the fall 2014 nursing program... I STILL haven't received acceptance from the university itself (student center says pending still) and haven't received a word from the nursing program. I know we aren't supposed to hear back from the nursing department until April 15th but I'm feeling pretty anxious not hearing back from the university itself... I'm thinking if I get accepted or denied to the nursing program then the university will decide from that whether to accept me or not. Any thoughts?

Someone in my cohort was number 19 on the alternate list and got in... you really never know!

Thank you! Congratulations on almost finishing. I wish you the best of luck when you take the NCLEX!

One of the reasons I'm really interested in Chico is because of the RCNP program (found out about it as I was doing my research). Did you do it? If so, can you further elaborate? I've read on some of these threads that people have gone as far as to move from San Diego to participate.

Sakakaka: I was in the same boat until a couple weeks ago. I think you should call the admissions office just to make sure everything is in order, and to ease your mind. That's what I did and they were very helpful and changed my status while I was on the phone with them.

I have a feeling we all end up where it's best for us. It may take us to step back and look at it as whole but, at some point we realize that it is what is best. I probably won't get into sac after getting an email about the point cut off. That was originally my first choice but, I went and visited Chico and the campus and liked it much more. So my number one choice changed. I wasn't as disappointed about sac when I got the email (even though not official) as I would have been, if I never went and visited Chico and, found it a better fit for me. Now hopefully I get accepted  I am sure you will probably have a similar experience after researching and finding out your choices.

Sorry to hear about the way you feel about Mt. Sac (even though it's not official). I hope that we all hear good news next week though!

If I'm accepted into Chico, I'll probably go visit & hopefully that will help me decide...

Hopefully Chico sticks with their timeline! :) don't want to wait any longer...

Thanks for answering my questions.... I will definitely be picking your brain (and anyone who is currently attending) *if* I am accepted...

I'm glad to hear that you still have a life outside of school. (LOL)... It's kind of nice to hear that after reading NUMEROUS AND NUMEROUS posts on here about nursing school consuming one's life...
