Apply for the HRSA scholarship - it's open right now. They pay for your school and give you over $1300/month to live off of in return for 2 years service at a critcal shortage nursing facility. It's a long shot but if you get it you have it made http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/scholarships/Nursing/

shannahan, thank you so much for that link! I am going to apply! *fingers crossed*

Good luck! I was so bummed that I didn't get it last year. It would have helped so much. But it has all worked out for me somehow. Also do a search of hrsa scholarship on this website - there are threads from previous years discussing it.

Specializes in none.

The scholarship states you have to start your nurses core classes before Sept 30, 2010,

Just info for anyone wanting to apply.

Specializes in ER.

What is the schedule like for Apollo? I have a B.S. in Elem. ed, and I'm taking the science pre-reqs right now at the community college. I'm a teacher, so I'm wondering if there is any other weekend/evening program besides the program offered by Gateway.

To the best of my knowledge, Apollo still does not offer an evening or weekend program. The schedule is a lot like HS from what I know. Attend early morning until afternoon. No idea on clinical times, but I think they're mostly days too. It's full time, so no part-time either. You are kinda stuck going when they want you to for class, regardless of whether it conflicts with work or other things.

After being frustrated with wait list, I am seeking out Apollo College-Phoenix nursing program. I have almost all of my pre-reqs done with hopes of entering into the 3rd semester of the Nursing program...however I heard there could be a year wait in that case. Is it better to start in the 1st semester at Apollo and just roll right through? Is there a wait to get into the 1st semester? Also, does anyone know how often there are start dates? Thanks!!

They would LOVE for you to begin in the first semester because each semester costs at least $7000. Save your money, and if you're set on attending Apollo, just wait until they have space for you in the third semester. They most likely will make you take their own pre-reqs too. I went three semesters at Apollo, and they started new classes every semester back then. I have a huge dept because I chose the Apollo route to avoid the waiting lists through Maricopa.

Good luck! :)

Thank you so much for the response! $7000 is quite an amount! If you try and get into the 3rd semester nursing core, is there a wait? I just don't want to pay a ton of money and have to wait a year to get in. Did you finish your RN through Apollo?
